Star Wars Fans May Finally Get Closure for One Story After 20+ Years

As a long-time Star Wars fan, it’s awesome to see we might finally get a satisfying ending to a story that started over twenty years ago. Look, Star Wars isn’t flawless – and honestly, that’s part of what I love about it. They’re always tweaking the established story, and sometimes things don’t quite add up. That’s just what happens with a universe this huge that’s been around for almost fifty years! But it’s especially disappointing when a story clearly had potential, you know? When you can tell it could have been amazing, but something just held it back. It’s frustrating to see that wasted potential.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords was a game with a lot of promise and received positive reviews, but is generally considered to have been released before it was fully completed. This isn’t just the opinion of players; many of the people who made the game feel the same way. In 2003, BioWare created one of its most popular role-playing games, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was a huge success and a defining title for the original Xbox – it wasn’t available on PlayStation 2 or GameCube. This success created a lot of pressure for the sequel.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2‘s Remake May Finally Finish the Game After Over 20 Years

As a huge fan of Knights of the Old Republic, I always found it fascinating learning about the making of the sequel. It wasn’t actually BioWare who developed it, but Obsidian Entertainment! They were given a really tight schedule – LucasArts wanted the game out for the 2004 holiday season after showing it off at E3. Originally, it was supposed to come out in 2005, but they had to make a lot of sacrifices to meet that earlier deadline. It’s amazing they got it done at all, honestly!

The game suffered from significant cuts, with entire planets and storylines removed, leaving the ending feeling rushed and unsatisfying. Despite the game’s overall quality, fans were understandably disappointed. Fortunately, Obsidian Entertainment included much of the deleted content on the game disc, albeit in an unfinished state. Dedicated players stepped in to restore this content through modifications, greatly improving the overall experience, even if it wasn’t a flawless fix.

After the re-release of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 on Nintendo Switch, Aspyr originally planned to offer modded content as downloadable content. However, Disney wouldn’t allow it. This led to a lawsuit claiming false advertising, and during legal proceedings, it was revealed that a full remake of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 is in development – and it will include all the content that was previously cut.

Whether this actually happens is still uncertain, especially since the remake of Knights of the Old Republic hasn’t been released yet. Previous efforts to include cut content in Knights of the Old Republic 2 were just temporary fixes. This remake, however, would fully integrate that content from the start, creating the experience the developers originally intended – it wouldn’t be added on, it would simply be the complete game.

Beyond simply updating the graphics, a remake could achieve far more than the original Obsidian game ever did. The developers would have the chance to realize all the ideas that were planned but never fully implemented, giving players a complete and satisfying experience. This could finally deliver the redemption fans have been hoping for, potentially making it not just a great remake, but one of the best Star Wars games of all time.

There are definitely challenges ahead with this project. While a remake could have a great budget and plenty of time to develop, it still needs to be well-made. Even with all the right content, a poor execution likely won’t satisfy fans. It’s probably a long way off, but this is still exciting news for Star Wars enthusiasts.
