When the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was put on hold, attention shifted to a new project called Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. This game is being developed by the new studio Arcanaut Studios, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and is headed by Casey Hudson. Hudson previously directed both the original Knights of the Old Republic from 2003 and the popular Mass Effect trilogy.
Given the studio is newly formed, some people, including Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, have predicted the game won’t be released until 2030, or even later. However, studio head Hudson responded on Twitter, reassuring fans that the game will come out sooner than that, jokingly adding that he’s not getting any younger.
While that’s encouraging, it doesn’t guarantee a release next year, or even by 2027. Given how long we’ve been waiting for the KOTOR remake (and the rumors about a remake of its sequel!), any progress is a positive sign.
Currently, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic doesn’t have announced platforms, but it’s been confirmed as a single-player action RPG focused on story. You’ll play as a Force user exploring a galaxy in a period of change, and your decisions will matter, just like in the original Star Wars games.
The biggest news last night was the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new game led by Casey Hudson, known for his work on the original KOTOR and Anthem. While many fans are excited, Lucasfilm has clarified that the studio developing the game was only recently founded, making a 2030 release date quite ambitious. It might not arrive until the next generation of consoles – perhaps even on a PlayStation 7!

Ignore the talk about the game not releasing until 2030. It will be out much sooner than that! I’m eager to get it finished and released, and time is of the essence!
