Star Wars: Galactic Racer “Is a Premium Release” and Won’t Have a Season Pass, Says Studio CEO

The rocky launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 left a bad taste in many players’ mouths, so it’s natural to be wary of how new Star Wars games handle purchases after release. Fortunately, the developers of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a team called Fuse Games made up of veterans from Criterion, have confirmed they won’t be using a season pass system for future content updates.

In a recent interview with IGN, studio founder and CEO Matt Webster explained that this is a fully-featured release. He stated they’ve included a campaign, arcade mode, and multiplayer, making it a complete package.

This is still Star Wars, and the franchise is always expanding with new content. So, the team understands that Star Wars – and games in general – change over time. They see potential to explore more Star Wars stories in the future, but they aren’t planning any post-launch content or season passes right now. They associate season passes with free-to-play games, and this title isn’t being developed that way.

Creative director Kieran Crimmins shares that the team is focused on delivering a polished, high-quality game right from the start. While they aren’t ruling out future additions, their priority is to make the initial release the best and most complete experience possible.

It’s noteworthy that the approach of offering a paid, complete game feels similar to what Pearl Abyss did with Crimson Desert. Marketing expert Will Powers confirmed that while pre-order bonuses are available, the game won’t include a store for cosmetic items or similar purchases, explaining that they’re aiming for a high-quality, complete experience from the start.

This year, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is being released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game centers around a racer named Shade and their quest to beat the champion, Kestar Bool, in the Galactic League. Players will be able to choose from different vehicle types and customize them, racing on tracks set on planets like Ando Prime, Jakku, and Sentinel One.

While the game doesn’t have an open world, the developers at Fuse Games are aiming for a thrilling experience with impactful choices and lots of reasons to play again, hoping to create unique and memorable stories for players. It will be interesting to see how they add new content since there aren’t any plans for a season pass.
