‘Star Wars’ Icon Mark Hamill Endorses Dave Filoni in Lucasfilm Leadership Role

As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really interested to hear what Mark Hamill thought about the changes at Lucasfilm. It’s been a big shift with Kathleen Kennedy stepping down after leading for so long, and now Dave Filoni is taking over as President and Chief Creative Officer, with Lynwen Brennan as Co-President. Hamill, of course, is the iconic Luke Skywalker, and it’s great to hear his take on who’s leading the franchise now. It feels like things are in good hands with Filoni involved!

Kathleen Kennedy became head of Lucasfilm after Disney bought it from George Lucas in 2012 for $4.05 billion. She guided the studio’s successful revival of the Star Wars franchise, managing the production of many films and TV shows, beginning with Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens in 2015, which launched a new trilogy. During her time as president, the studio significantly increased its output, creating popular streaming series like The Mandalorian and Andor. However, some releases, including The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, proved controversial and received criticism from fans – and even Mark Hamill.

With Kennedy stepping down, Lucasfilm has appointed Filoni and Brennan to lead the franchise. This new partnership aims to bring stability to future storytelling: Filoni will guide the creative side of the entire Star Wars universe, while Brennan will focus on the business side, including strategy and marketing. It’s a significant undertaking, but Filoni’s extensive, 20-year history with Lucasfilm proves he has a deep understanding of Star Wars.
