The latest Star Wars show is a hit with critics – it currently has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes – and a sequel is already planned for next year. This follow-up will be a spin-off offering a completely new experience for viewers. What’s exciting about Star Wars: Visions is that it’s a unique animated series, now three seasons in, where each episode is created by a different animation studio, giving them a chance to put their own spin on the Star Wars universe.
The third season of Star Wars: Visions premiered on October 29th and offered a new approach compared to earlier seasons. While previous seasons consisted of completely independent episodes, season 3 brought back some animation studios for return appearances and included three episodes that continued storylines from previous installments. Most notably, one of these episodes is essentially a pilot for a potential new series.
The Ninth Jedi Is Expanding Into A New Spinoff

Continuing the story from season one, “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” written by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G, follows Margrave Juro’s quest to revive the Jedi Order in a galaxy dominated by the Sith. Juro has only found a few promising candidates, one of whom is Lah Kara, the daughter of a famous lightsaber maker who has been taken hostage by the Sith. This episode centers on Lah Kara’s story and is notably focused on character development.
Lucasfilm has announced that the story will continue next year with a four-episode animated series created by Kamiyama and Production I.G. Titled Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, this is the first official spinoff from the Star Wars: Visions anthology, and it won’t be bound by existing Star Wars lore, allowing for completely new possibilities. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, it’s shaping up to be a great year for Star Wars fans, with The Mandalorian and Grogu hitting theaters and season two of Ahsoka also on the way.
The Ninth Jedi Could Save The Galaxy… Or Destroy It

Considering the upcoming separation of this story into its own series, it’s notable how focused this episode is on its characters. This focus serves a purpose, though: it establishes Lah Kara as someone who could either save the galaxy or destroy it. She’s still determined to rescue her father from the Sith, and she quickly forms strong connections with those around her – a trait known as ‘attachment’ within Jedi teachings.
In “Child of Hope,” Lah Kara is established as a character similar to the “Chosen One” archetype, much like Anakin Skywalker. However, her driving force isn’t a dedication to goodness, but her love for those close to her. Already worried about what happened to her father, she experiences even more sadness when a droid she’s befriended makes a selfless sacrifice to save her, making it clear how she could be drawn to the dark side.
With Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, it looks like we’re going to see stories that really get to the heart of what Star Wars is all about. The new series introduces a character reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker, set in a particularly bleak galaxy, and focuses on a hero whose decisions will determine if she embraces the light side or falls to the dark. While it’s likely to be a larger-scale story, it promises the same personal touch as the original films created by George Lucas.
