Throughout the galaxy far, far away, the biggest danger has always been Emperor Palpatine. Having learned the secrets of the dark side from Darth Plagueis, Palpatine betrayed his teacher and took all the power for himself. He wanted to rule the entire galaxy, but it wasn’t simple. His plan relied on subtly turning the two most powerful forces in the galaxy against each other and destroying the Jedi. Palpatine spent years carefully preparing, waiting for the perfect time to reveal himself to Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One. His patience ultimately worked, allowing him to claim the throne with ease.
Even though Palpatine died in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he manages to come back by creating a clone who then establishes the Final Order. But Star Wars isn’t content with the Sith Lord being the main villain. Instead, the franchise is now focusing on a new, even more powerful antagonist – one that seems stronger than any Jedi or Sith from the past. They are clearly setting up a new big bad.
LEGO Star Wars‘ Solitus Makes Emperor Palpatine Look Like a Youngling

While new live-action Star Wars films and series are still being created, the franchise is currently offering new content with the animated show, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, which continues the story from the previous installment. The show centers around two brothers, Sig Greebling and Dev Greebling, both strong with the Force, who find themselves on opposing sides of a big battle. Dev is turning to the dark side, which means Sig and his Jedi master, Jedi Bob, must fight to stop him. But things are complicated because Jedi Bob has a past that could ruin everything – his old master, Solitus, has returned and wants payback for being trapped in the Forcehold, a strange dimension where unwanted LEGO bricks are sent.
Solitus spends a seemingly endless amount of time building his army at the Forcehold, getting ready to return to the galaxy he once knew. What sets this villain apart from someone like Palpatine or other Sith Lords is his ability to tear open dimensional rifts, instantly stopping and permanently trapping his enemies. Even Yoda, considered the greatest Jedi ever, is unable to even touch Solitus. Solitus is defeated only because he misplaces his trust – a familiar storyline in Star Wars. The main villain of Pieces of the Past doesn’t necessarily have to lose all hope, as he could still have a future in a galaxy far, far away.
Will Solitus Ever Be Made Canon?

The characters featured in LEGO Star Wars usually aren’t intended to be central to the main Star Warsstory. Their storylines are typically considered non-canon, and that’s likely a good thing, given some of the unusual events that happen. However, since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, they’ve started making some previously non-canon characters official parts of the Star Warsuniverse. Grand Admiral Thrawn first appeared as canon in Star Wars Rebels, where he caused trouble for the crew of the Ghost, and he even made a live-action appearance in Star Wars: Ahsoka. Including Thrawn wasn’t a big gamble, as he doesn’t possess powers that could drastically alter the galaxy. Solitus, though, would fundamentally change Star Wars as we know it.
Lucasfilm has the option of including Soltius in a project, though they could hold off on giving him his animated abilities. He might need to wait his turn, as Starkiller is still in line, but there seems to be enough space for both characters. Ultimately, it doesn’t make sense to develop a compelling villain only to use them briefly.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past is streaming on Disney+.
