Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 Gets Videos Showcasing Docked and Handheld Performance

Although the second version of “Star Wars Outlaws” for Nintendo Switch is set to launch within a few days, YouTuber Mataleao appears to have received an early copy of the game. This video content creator has shared a couple of videos demonstrating the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of “Star Wars Outlaws,” showcasing both docked and handheld play modes. These videos offer a sneak peek into the game’s expected performance on the platform. You can find these videos below.

The Star Wars Outlaws Switch 2 version, as shown in the video, achieves an excellent compromise between performance and graphical accuracy. Though it’s less sophisticated compared to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions given their superior hardware, the Switch 2 manages to deliver striking visuals at a steady 30 FPS. However, some texture details have been compromised in the transition, resulting in certain walls appearing rather muddy due to low-resolution textures.

In simpler terms, during handheld mode, the Switch 2’s display may struggle to maintain the game’s quality due to reduced visual fidelity. This results in a frame rate typically less than 30 frames per second, and the appearance of graphical artifacts that could be due to the intense use of DLSS upscaling to keep the gameplay smooth. Long trips on a speeder can also cause temporary drops in frame rate, possibly due to the need to load new sections of the map as you travel.

According to Mataleao, the primary difference between playing Star Wars Outlaws in handheld mode versus docked mode is that they both run at approximately the same frame rate. However, the handheld mode tends to sacrifice visual quality significantly, with a shorter draw distance for foliage and lower detail for objects that are farther away.

Despite some visual and performance reductions, Star Wars Outlaws remains relatively playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. The user interface and heads-up display have been optimized effectively so they remain legible on the compact screen of the portable console compared to a larger TV or monitor.
