Starfield Developer Confirms New DLC and Big Changes to Space Gameplay

According to the developer, Starfield is set to receive additional DLC and significant free updates that significantly alter gameplay. Known for creating some of the most renowned western RPGs like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, Bethesda Game Studios introduced a new franchise, Starfield, a few years ago. The game received a mixed response from fans who expected something more grandiose, similar to No Man’s Sky, but it had its merits and was not without potential. Since then, Bethesda has been improving Starfield with additions like land vehicles, earning appreciation from fans, though it still has room for improvement.

In the initial release of Starfield, the space travel experience sparked quite a discussion among players. For one, there were loading screens every time you entered or exited planets, which some found disruptive as they yearned for a seamless transition to feel like they were truly soaring through the cosmos or descending into a planet’s atmosphere before landing. The process felt overly scripted. Moreover, players were unable to pilot their own spacecraft towards a planet; instead, they could only fly indefinitely without reaching any planets to land on. To reach a planet, they had to choose it from a menu and then load into it, which was less than optimal. In essence, these aspects were not as player-friendly as desired.

Starfield Still Has a Bright Future Ahead

Based on recent updates, it appears that the popular game “Starfield” might be making a return soon. Previously, rumors circulated about additional DLC for the game, but there had been a noticeable silence. However, a new video featuring Bethesda’s Tim Lamb hints at more to come for “Starfield”. The developers have confirmed that not only is new DLC in the works, but also a significant overhaul of the game’s space gameplay.

Todd Lamb shared his enthusiasm for Starfield, stating, “I’m really looking forward to what players will experience with this project we’ve been developing.” He teased, “There are some interesting features on the horizon, such as free updates, requested player features, an exciting new DLC story, and more. However, I can’t reveal all the details just yet. Let me tell you, a portion of our team has been concentrating on enhancing space gameplay to make those journeys more worthwhile. We’re also introducing some innovative game systems and minor surprises.

Time will reveal whether this update pleases not just enthusiasts of the original Starfield, but also individuals who were less enthused about the game initially. The game garnered a significant number of players, yet failed to keep them engaged for long periods. However, there’s hope that the situation might change drastically with an update that significantly enhances the gaming experience. It has been rumored that Starfield will be available on PS5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2, and more details about updates could surface closer to these release dates, though they are anticipated to occur as late as 2026.
