Next week brings a huge update to Starfield, the largest since the Shattered Space expansion launched last year. The Terran Armada update adds a new faction, enemies, and plenty of activities for players. If you prefer a different playstyle, the update also expands on life in the Free Lanes. You can see everything new in the trailer below.
The biggest new feature is Cruise Mode, which lets players fly directly between planets within a star system instead of waiting through multiple loading screens. Loading screens still happen when you land and take off, but while cruising, you can explore new areas called Free Lanes. These lanes are filled with interesting discoveries like points of interest, strange Anomalies, and dangerous Interdictions, which might include enemy encounters.
This update offers much more than meets the eye! Beyond the initial changes, you’ll find new high-level ranks, a system for improving ships and rerolling upgrades, and the ability to carry items over into New Game Plus. For a complete rundown of everything new, check out our detailed feature article.
The free ‘Free Lanes’ update and ‘Terran Armada’ expansion for Starfield are available starting April 7th on all platforms, including the newly launching PS5 version. You can find details on how the game utilizes Sony’s hardware, particularly the PS5 Pro, for a more immersive experience here.
