Although specifics are yet undefined, there’s a hint of what may be in store for Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming science-fiction RPG, Starfield. In a behind-the-scenes video, producer Tim Lamb shares his experience at Bethesda, having contributed to games like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and most recently, Starfield.
During the conversation, he mentions that working on Starfield differed from other Bethesda titles, but later gets enthusiastic about what the team has been developing, stating “I can’t wait for players to see what we’ve been up to.
He shares some exciting news, hinting at upcoming additions such as free upgrades and requested player-requested features, along with a fresh DLC narrative. He doesn’t go into all the specifics just yet, but he does reveal that part of the team is working on improving space gameplay for more enjoyable travels. They’re also adding new game mechanics, as well as some smaller, delightful extras.”
Regarding the development of a second DLC expansion, while it isn’t entirely unexpected since executive producer Todd Howard previously mentioned the intention for multiple expansions, it’s still reassuring to hear that work on this DLC is progressing.
We’re also adding some new game systems and a few other smaller delights.
Tim Lamb, Lead Creative Producer
It appears that there might have been some internal delays with the Starfield game, as promised updates for this year haven’t quite matched the team’s initial expectations for 2025. So far, the game has received a couple of updates with improvements for modded content and new “Very Low” settings suitable for handheld gaming devices. However, these updates don’t seem to fully align with the team’s earlier announcements about numerous exciting developments planned for this year.
The year isn’t over yet, so there is still a possibility that some of the promised updates might be released before 2025 ends. But it wouldn’t be unexpected if the expansion and most of the updates are instead rolled out sometime in early 2026.
Here’s what I want to see in these Starfield updates

Lamb’s hints about space gameplay updates for Starfield have created quite a buzz among players, including myself. While I had a good time with the initial release, it’s no secret that the repetitive jumping from location to location and limited activities beyond ship combat can become monotonous.
If Bethesda manages to introduce varied space encounters and innovative ways to interact in space using our spaceships, it will certainly keep players like me engaged.
Beyond this, I’m hoping for two additional features. The first is the option to create and personalize our own space stations, which seems like a logical extension of the ship-building and base construction already present in the game. A station could house a few docked ships and aid resource extraction at a planet or moon base below. It would also be exciting if we could encounter random events involving these stations, such as defending them from attackers.
The second feature I’d like to see is underwater exploration on various planets. Incorporating underwater biomes and alien creatures for study would make exploring planets more interesting, especially if they posed new aquatic threats.
Regarding the story DLC, I can only guess, but I hope the rumored “Starborn” title connects to the game’s ending. I won’t spoil anything if you haven’t finished the game, but there are numerous intriguing possibilities the developers could explore in that context.
More to come for other Bethesda projects

Beyond the realm of Starfield, fans of Bethesda Game Studios can anticipate the resurrection of the Fallout television series this year. The second season promises further escapades across and in the vicinity of the notorious city of New Vegas.
The second installment is scheduled to debut on December 17, with new episodes airing weekly.
