Stars Defend Paul Dano Amid Quentin Tarantino Criticism

Paul Dano has a lot of people in his corner.

I was absolutely livid when I heard what Quentin Tarantino said about Steven Spielberg! Can you believe it? Calling him the “weakest actor”?! It’s just…wrong! And thankfully, so many people agree! Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller, Alec Baldwin, even Simu Liu – they all jumped to defend him after Tarantino said that awful thing at the Screen Actors Guild. It just proves how much everyone respects and loves Steven. Honestly, it made me so happy to see them all have his back!

Actor Paul Dano is exceptionally talented and can play a wide range of roles, according to Reese, who worked with him on Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2014 film Inherent Vice. She shared on Threads December 6th that he’s also a kind and considerate person.

Ben, who previously directed Paul in the 2018 series Escape at Dannemora, was quick to praise him, writing on X (formerly Twitter) on December 4th, “Paul Dano is unbelievably talented.” Simu Liu shared a similar opinion on X that same day, stating, “I think Paul Dano is a really incredible actor.”

On December 4th, Alec shared a video on Instagram expressing his support for Paul Dano. He playfully warned anyone who disagreed, saying, “I just love Paul Dano. And if you don’t, keep quiet!”

Josh Gad also took the time to issue a defense for Paul, attesting to his talent and his character.

Someone posted on Threads on December 4th that Paul Dano is truly one of the greatest actors working today – and that’s just a fact.

Quentin made critical comments about Paul’s performance in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, calling him the movie’s biggest weakness. However, Colleen Foy, who played Paul’s sister in the film, defended him and pointed out that the director seemed to have changed his opinion.

I acted alongside Paul Dano as siblings in the film There Will Be Blood, she shared on Threads on December 5th. She praised his performance, noting that Quentin Tarantino, who was sitting behind her at a screening, was clearly very impressed by it. She finds his recent statements surprising given how much he enjoyed the performance that night.

Quentin initially dismissed the film, calling it “weak sauce” to justify why it had dropped from his list of all-time favorites.

According to a recent appearance on the Bret Easton Ellis podcast, one critic believes the film There Will Be Blood would be even stronger if not for Paul Dano’s performance. He described Dano as the film’s biggest weakness, calling him uninteresting and the weakest actor in the Screen Actors Guild.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from the left.)

I was so relieved to hear him say that he and Tan are doing okay. He told Vanity Fair they’re handling a personal issue privately, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the show. He was really clear it wasn’t a romantic thing, just something between the two of them that had been building up for a while. It’s good to know they’re working through it and keeping it separate from their work!

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Okay, so there’s been a lot of talk about a recent casting, and I wanted to clear things up. Netflix and the production team really did a thorough search, looking at tons of talent. I want to be clear – I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, they landed it completely on their own merit – they were simply the best fit! And just to address any speculation, I definitely didn’t play any part in someone else losing out to help my friend get the job. It was all about finding the right person.

After years of speculation about a disagreement between them, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty’s former co-star on Charmed, revealed on her December 2023 podcast, Let’s Be Clear, that Alyssa Milano supposedly gave a show producer an ultimatum: choose between her and Shannen. Combs claims this led to Shannen leaving the series in 2001.

In a February 2024 Instagram post, Alyssa stated she couldn’t have gotten anyone fired and claimed that any current accounts of the events were simply inaccurate retellings of something that happened a long time ago.

Shannen recently stated at a MegaCon Orlando panel that, to her knowledge, the story as it was originally told remains accurate and hasn’t been altered.

Shannen passed away in July 2024 after a yearslong battle with cancer.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she considered Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” to be the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a very rude and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed upset when he was on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.

I’ll never forget this encounter! A young guy started questioning my experience, basically asking me who I was and what I’d accomplished. Honestly, my inner voice just screamed, ‘Honey, you have no idea who you’re talking to!’ I wanted to let him know he was way out of his depth and that I wasn’t someone to mess with. I basically told him he didn’t understand what he was up against. It was a ‘don’t start with me’ moment, to say the least!

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, posted on August 23rd, Brittany thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed being feminine.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure had once declined to pose for a photo with her at a red carpet event. Shortly after, Cameron Bure apologized, saying she regretted hurting Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and acknowledging she should have taken the picture. She expressed sincere regret for the incident.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday movies, she stated it wouldn’t, explaining that the network will continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to the entire LGBTQ+ community.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without proper credit. Olivia responded with a simple, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me for details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the actor from Happy Days explained why he and the star of Forrest Gump didn’t get along while filming their 1989 movie, Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, as I had everything I needed with me, he said.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Those who watched The Hills likely recall Lauren’s famous line from the start of season three. The drama between them began when Heidi started dating her future husband, Spencer Pratt, and escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about a sex tape involving her and Jason Wahler.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out after the release date for Fast & Furious 9 was moved to April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced for 2019. Shortly after, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson was still involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that they still haven’t spoken directly. He mentioned he did talk to one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not Johnson himself, and hopes to have a conversation with him soon.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others involved with the franchise, saying it was unprofessional and a mistake he takes responsibility for. He explained he was the only one who spoke out, and that was his own fault.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which began with issues over a dancer and competition during their tours, was resolved when Perry sent Swift an olive branch as a peace offering before Swift’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared on Instagram that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and made some pointed remarks about her co-star.

During a September 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only been work colleagues and not friends.

She said she was just devastated. They had talked about it all week, and she was really bothered because that wasn’t how she remembered things happening.

It’s definitely sad, but I believe what truly connects us is the shared experience we had. It started as a professional project, but over the years, it became something deeply personal. I’m hoping that those years of working on something special and building a connection with people will ultimately be more meaningful than any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of it.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously told the audience, “Madonna, best live act? That’s ridiculous!” He went on to say that lip-syncing shouldn’t be considered a live performance, and suggested performers who lip-sync during paid concerts shouldn’t be doing so.

The actress, formerly known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award nominations. She explained that she didn’t believe the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine’s choice in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “When people show you their true colors, pay attention,” Rhimes explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s been a valuable lesson for me.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week made headlines everywhere. A month later, Cardi publicly explained what caused the argument with Nicki.

Cardi B told W magazine that someone has been repeatedly criticizing her. She explained that she’d talked to this person twice and thought they’d resolved the issue, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had seemingly liked, then unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting. Nicki has stated she didn’t actually interact with the tweet.

Okay, so everyone thinks I’m crazy, but I was seriously set to make so much money with this Bruno Mars tour – millions! But I put it all on hold for Kulture, my baby girl. She’s my world, and I know I’m a fantastic mom. It just bugs me that people without kids are judging me! They’re saying that party wasn’t the right place to meet him, but honestly, when am I ever going to randomly run into Bruno Mars at the grocery store or just walking around?! It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I took it for my daughter, and I don’t regret it.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for this action, and Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The supposed rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez has been talked about for over 15 years. It began during an interview when Mariah was asked about other singers, and when asked about Jennifer, she famously said, “I don’t know her.”
