Okay, it’s February, and I’m SO excited! It’s not just that big games like Resident Evil Requiem are coming out, but PlayStation just announced their first State of Play of the year! They’re promising over an hour of awesome news, reveals, and announcements – stuff from both PlayStation Studios and developers all over the world. I can’t wait to see what they show off!
It’s best not to get overly excited or expect immediate results – especially regarding a game like Grand Theft Auto 6, considering Take-Two has only stated marketing will begin this summer. However, there’s still a lot to anticipate! Here are 15 possible announcements, starting with the most likely ones…
A Hideo Kojima Trailer
Hideo Kojima, known for his creative approach, has hinted at an upcoming State of Play through subtle posts about working on a new trailer – his first in eight months. Fans are now expecting an announcement for the PC version of Death Stranding 2, but many are hoping for something even bigger. Specifically, they’re playfully urging Kojima to announce a new project, potentially starring Robert Pattinson, related to the mysterious ‘Physint’ concept.
Saros

Housemarque previously announced it would share more details about its upcoming roguelite shooter before it releases. With the launch now just over two months away, a showcase seems likely – especially if the developers want to highlight the challenging bosses players will face in the game’s setting, Carcosa. Given that Saros is a first-party title, a more in-depth reveal at a later date wouldn’t be surprising.
Marvel’s Wolverine

It’s unlikely, considering Insomniac Games usually starts promoting its games closer to their release date. However, if Marvel’s Wolverine unexpectedly launches in late September – still within the fall timeframe – we might see trailers and announcements sooner than expected. Either way, this is Sony’s first State of Play event of the year, and what better way to kick it off than with a spotlight on Wolverine?
4:Loop

Just because Mike Booth, known for his work on Left 4 Dead, is involved with 4:Loop doesn’t automatically make it a must-see game. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t be featured at State of Play. At the very least, Bad Robot Games could announce dates for a playtest, and hopefully show off what makes their co-op game unique and why it has potential for success.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

It looks like Arc System Works and Sony accidentally revealed some details about their upcoming 4v4 tag fighter on Steam, and quickly fixed the mistake. This has led to speculation about a possible open beta and even a release date in the next few months. We’ve been eager to try out Marvel Tōkon since its announcement and are excited to learn more.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve

Bandai Namco games are often featured at PlayStation’s State of Play presentations, and this release is available on multiple platforms. So, we might see some new information about the next Ace Combat game, perhaps showing off its cool features or exciting aerial battles. A release date might not be announced just yet, but anything is possible, especially considering the game’s world is called Strangereal!
Crimson Desert

With fans anticipating another look at Crimson Desert‘s features, many are wondering if we’ll see new gameplay during the upcoming State of Play event. Given the game’s release next month and the potential audience, it seems likely. It might be wishful thinking, but now is the perfect time for a marketing push.
Silent Hill: Townfall

Okay, Annapurna, you’ve been teasing us with Townfall for years now, and it’s time! Considering how much Konami seems to favor PlayStation and State of Play with Silent Hill, I’m really hoping we finally get some news on the next big game during the showcase. Honestly, I’d be happy with anything – a release date, a glimpse of gameplay, or even just confirmation that the project hasn’t been canceled. Just something, please!
Starfield on PS5

For a long time, fans have hoped Starfield would come to PS5, and recent leaks suggest it might finally happen this Spring. Along with the game’s release, we likely will see Update 2.0, which should address many of the issues players have experienced. However, a new story expansion seems less likely. Regardless, showcasing Starfield at the State of Play event is a great way to remind everyone it’s still being updated, whether they love it or not.
Marathon

Bungie has been doing a lot more marketing for its upcoming shooter game lately, and it’s starting to look more appealing before its March release. Considering how other games have launched, it makes sense to hold public playtests on all platforms, and announcing those dates during Sony’s event would be a smart move.
Resident Evil Requiem

Now that Resident Evil Requiem is coming out later this month, many fans are hoping for a new trailer during the upcoming State of Play presentation. Any kind of preview – even a small clip or a reveal of a new character – would help build excitement. While a free demo seems unlikely at this late stage, given previous games and remakes, we’re hoping for something substantial to get us hyped.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword

With news about Pragmata’s release and demo, and Requiem heavily featuring Leon, Onimusha: Way of the Sword hasn’t had much attention lately. I’m skeptical we’ll see a release date for Musashi’s new historically-based adventure anytime soon, but there’s still a chance some exciting announcements are coming.
Directive 8020

So, remember that sci-fi horror game from Supermassive Games that got delayed… a lot? It finally showed up at last year’s State of Play, and if they’re actually planning to release it soon, this would be the perfect time to announce it. I’m curious to see how much more they can reveal to get us hyped without spoiling the story, but honestly, if it comes out in the next few months, that’s good enough for me – it’s been a long wait!
Control Resonant

As a huge Remedy fan, I’m so excited! They’ve been teasing bits and pieces about Resonant – the combat, how the levels are built, what the gameplay will actually feel like – and now they’ve said they’ll show us more really soon. I’m not sure if we’ll finally get a release date, but honestly, just seeing more extended gameplay – especially watching Dylan tear through Manhattan – would be amazing!
The Witcher 3 DLC

Could we see another unexpected announcement soon? It’s certainly possible. If CD Projekt RED’s rumored new game launches in May – and if it’s real at all – a State of Play presentation would be a great place to start building excitement. Even a small reveal could generate a lot of interest, considering it’s a new installment in The Witcher 3 series. Plus, with no other big gaming events planned for a while, the timing could be perfect.
