Steal’s Sophie Turner reveals *that* twist made her want to sign onto the show

Major Steal spoilers ahead.

For much of Steal’s opening episode, friends Zara and Luke are having the mother of all bad days.

Sophie Turner (known from Game of Thrones and Joan) and Archie Madekwe (from Saltburn and Gran Turismo) play a couple who find themselves in the middle of a robbery while at work at their investment firm.

Robbers broke into the building and threatened people with guns, forcing them to transfer billions of pounds from ordinary citizens’ pension funds.

They aren’t just observers at Lochmill Capital – they’re key decision-makers with the power to take significant action.

But all is not as it seems.

Okay, so at the very end of the first episode, after Zara finishes giving her statement to DCI Rhys – it seemed like she just needed a moment to herself – she goes to the restroom. And while she’s there, she overhears a couple of people at work wondering if the whole thing might have been committed by someone within the company. It really got me thinking – could it be an inside job?

It’s when Zara gives a tired but knowing smile that we understand she knew all along.

Once the second episode aired, it became clear that this character [referring to Madekwe] was involved all along, which I really enjoyed. I thought it was incredibly compelling that everyone in the show operated in a morally ambiguous way. It kept you guessing about everyone’s motives and actions, and made it hard to know who to believe.

This applies to Detective Inspector Rhys as well. He’s struggling with a gambling addiction and is involved with questionable people, which makes the situation even more dangerous.

“It just keeps you on your toes at all times,” added Turner.

But Zara’s relief is short-lived…

Madekwe explained that people often talk about how a situation might unfold, preparing for what could happen. However, she noted that things frequently escalate beyond what anyone expects, becoming much larger and more frightening than initially discussed.

Despite all the arrangements, Turner explained, employees have been coming to work and physically assaulting their coworkers. He emphasized that this behavior was completely unacceptable and not agreed upon.

Ultimately, they discover they aren’t suited for the challenges they face,” Madekwe explained. “This is especially true for Luke, who clearly struggles with pressure and falls apart when things get difficult.

“They’ve done something they potentially immediately regret.”
