Steam Deck owners who miss the classic games of the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox era are in luck! A highly-rated game from that time has now been verified to work great on the Steam Deck. This means Valve has thoroughly tested it and confirmed it’s fully playable, with excellent performance on the handheld’s screen and controls.
It might seem strange that a game originally released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2005 is getting Steam Deck verification in 2025. However, this isn’t the original game, but a remake that came out in 2020. Even so, it’s unexpected for Steam Deck owners to see a game get verified five years after it was first released. The game is *Destroy All Humans*, developed by Black Forest Games and Pandemic Studios, and published by THQ Nordic.
A Very Nostalgic Game + The Sequel
The original *Destroy All Humans* game came out in 2005, developed by Pandemic Studios and published by THQ. It was the first of four games in the series (not counting remakes), and it was a fun action-adventure title. Critics gave it a decent score of 75 on Metacritic – positive, but not a blockbuster. Although it wasn’t the best game on the PlayStation 2, it sold well and gradually gained a dedicated fanbase over the years. This popularity led to a remake in 2020 by Black Forest Games, which stayed true to the original and received a similar level of positive reception.
It’s good news that the sci-fi game now works well on the Steam Deck, but it’s currently selling for its full price of $29.99 – there’s no discount available. If you’re new to the *Destroy All Humans* series, it might not be worth the $30 price tag to try it out. However, if you have fond memories of the original game, the cost likely won’t be an issue. And fans of the sequel will be pleased to hear that the remake, *Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed*, is also now verified for the Steam Deck.
We’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to leave a comment or join the discussion on our forum! If this game isn’t for you, don’t worry – there are lots of other choices. Plus, a major RPG launching later this year will be immediately compatible with the Steam Deck.
