Steam Hardware FAQ revealed as Valve comments on price, release date and shipping

Valve initially planned to release its new Steam Frame VR headset, Steam Machine, and Steam Controller in early 2026. However, rising memory costs quickly raised concerns about whether they could actually meet that deadline. Recently, though, there’s been some positive news suggesting the project isn’t completely stalled.

AMD revealed that Valve is still aiming for a launch in early 2026, and Microsoft plans to release its next console in 2027.

Following this, Valve published its own announcement through a Steam Hardware FAQ page detailing launch timing and other common questions.

So, I was checking the Steam FAQ, and apparently Valve was hoping to have pricing and release dates for the Steam Deck’s accessories – specifically the Steam Frame and Steam Machine – figured out by now. But they’re running into issues with memory being hard to get and getting more expensive. Because of that, they need to rethink when things will ship and how much they’ll cost. It’s a bummer, but understandable, I guess!

The recent leaks about Steam Machine prices appear to have been inaccurate, and we still don’t know how much the device will actually cost.

Originally, “early 2026” was a rather imprecise timeframe. We at TopMob Gaming interpreted it as meaning by April at the latest, but Valve maintains that they still aim to release all three products within the first six months of the year.

Even though the first six months of the year pass quickly, it looks like we won’t see the new products available until June.

Fortunately, developers can request development kits for the Steam Deck, allowing them extra time to make sure their games are fully compatible and officially verified by Steam.

We’ll be hearing much more about the new hardware soon, as Valve intends to share detailed information through blog posts and videos.

The FAQ includes a few extra details, but nothing majorly new. It’s good to hear that Valve will release the design files for the Steam Machine’s exterior, allowing users to create or buy custom faceplates. Dbrand has already hinted at a cool Portal-themed design featuring the Companion Cube.

We’ll share details about Steam Hardware pricing and shipping dates as soon as we have them.
