I just checked out Steam Replay for 2025, and it’s really cool! Steam put together a recap of everything that happened on the platform this year, and you can find it right on the front page. It doesn’t give a ton of detail, but it’s fun to see stats like how many new games people played on average and the total number of achievements unlocked. It’s a great look at what’s been popular in PC gaming this year!
Looking at data from 2025, the typical Steam player only plays 4 games throughout the year, suggesting most people focus on a small number of titles instead of buying everything new. They also earn around 11 achievements, meaning many don’t actively try to unlock them all – it’s unclear if these achievements represent story completion or optional content. The average Steam user plays games for 6 days in a row before taking a break.
Looking at what people are playing on Steam, about 14% of their time is spent on games released this year. A much larger portion – 44% – is dedicated to games released between one and seven years ago. Games that are eight years old or older account for another 40% of playtime. A small amount of playtime – around 2% – isn’t accounted for, likely due to minor inaccuracies in the data.
Steam Replay is now offering more personalized details about your own gaming activity. Later this month, Valve will release a broader overview of Steam’s 2025 stats, including average playtime with different controllers and how many games were played more often on the Steam Deck.
Valve is likely to release its list of top-selling games for 2025, just as it did last year. In 2024, titles like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Palworld, Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 were among the best-selling new releases. The list also included popular older games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring.
Several other games also performed well in sales, including Enshrouded, Path of Exile 2, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and Hogwarts Legacy, along with numerous other titles.
There’s been talk that Valve might finally release Half-Life 3 as a game to showcase its new Steam Machine. Valve recently revealed the Steam Machine, along with a new VR headset and an updated Steam Controller. You can find all the details here.
