Steam Users Can Now Play Highly Anticipated Game for Free 6 Months Before Release

An eagerly awaited Steam video game, set to launch later in the year, now offers a free trial version on Steam for download by everyone. However, it’s uncertain whether or not this demo works on the Steam Deck because the game’s compatibility with the Steam Deck on its Steam page is marked as “Unknown.” This means that the game might run smoothly on the Steam Deck, might not work at all, or could be somewhere in between. We just don’t know yet. Luckily, those using PCs won’t have this concern.

The demo for the game on Steam isn’t available until July 15, 2025, but it will be released six months prior to launch. This new release is actually a remastered version of a popular Steam game from 2002. To clarify, the Steam game in question is Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, which is a 2025 remaster of Stronghold Crusader, the sequel to 2001’s Stronghold.

The Stronghold series, a timeless collection on Steam and a trailblazer within the strategy game genre, may not age gracefully compared to its contemporaries. However, the release of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, remade by its original creators FireFly Studios, promises to draw in long-time Steam gamers and enthusiasts of real-time strategy games as a whole.

For enthusiasts, the recently enhanced edition of the original PC game offers “desert battles from history re-envisioned,” accompanied by “novel gameplay elements and improved graphics.” Additionally, original artwork, music, and familiar voice actors bring about a “meticulously restored” rendition of the 2002 real-time strategy classic.

This fresh gameplay offers:

* Eight fresh characters you can control in the game,
* Four new artificial intelligence rulers to challenge you,
* A number of extra storylines for solo play,
* Cooperative mode added for team play,
* Larger territories to explore, and
* More opportunities for personalizing your gaming experience.

The price of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition hasn’t been revealed yet by FireFly Studios. However, considering that the original version costs $9.99 and its remaster for the first game (released in 2023 as Stronghold: Definitive Edition) is priced at $14.99, it’s likely that Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition will be sold for around $14.99 when it launches this summer.
