Step Inside Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott’s Luxury New York Home

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott shared a new look into their very special property.

The couple, who became engaged in 2023, recently gave Architectural Digest a tour of their New York City apartment, showcasing their unique blend of vintage and modern styles.

The tour started in the entryway, where guests are welcomed and taken upstairs by elevator. The living space immediately impressed with its floral wallpaper, dark green trim, gold details, and a beautiful chandelier.

As the HGTV star explained in a video on October 8th, first impressions are crucial, and they wanted to create a welcoming and engaging experience for their guests.

He used his construction experience to add beautiful, high ceilings to the house after they had already moved in.

The ceiling was originally quite low, less than eight feet high. It felt very close above us. We realized all that space was being wasted, so we raised the ceiling. We then added crown molding and a striking light fixture to draw your gaze upwards. I particularly love the archway, but this is just a glimpse of the beautiful details you’ll find throughout the rest of the space.

Once inside the apartment, vibrant murals and wallpaper covered the walls, complemented by beautiful, detailed molding. The actress explained that the space had been completely transformed from its original condition.

Jonathan referred to the kitchen as “the heart of the home.” It features a stone island and backsplash, complemented by various shades of blue, creating a bright and open feel.

They deliberately chose not to install recessed lights in their kitchen – or anywhere else in the house – preferring to use lamps, wall-mounted lights, and chandeliers instead.

You know, being engaged to Zooey means I’ve really started to *notice* things – specifically, lighting! She comes from a family of artists, and her dad, Caleb Deschanel, is an incredible cinematographer – he’s even been nominated for an Academy Award. Jonathan put it perfectly: when you’re around that level of talent, you realize how crucial good lighting really is. It’s something I never really thought about before, but now I see it *everywhere*.

I absolutely love how they’ve decorated their main living space! It’s such a cozy mix of old and new. They have this gorgeous floral couch, and it’s covered in bright, cheerful pillows. The rug is amazing too – completely unique and made just for them! And get this – they don’t even *have* a visible TV! They cleverly hide the screen and use a projector when they want to watch something. It’s so much more stylish!

As a lifestyle expert, I’m all about creating spaces that feel beautiful and inviting, but also genuinely *livable*. I think the best homes strike that balance – they shouldn’t feel like a showroom! It’s about having a unique style, absolutely, but ultimately, you want to walk in and instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. That’s what really makes a house a home.

A grand piano brings a touch of elegance and fun to their home, and Zooey is excited to host singalong parties. They even have karaoke equipment right nearby!

Their outdoor space serves as an oasis from city living, which Jonathan pointed out is rare.

Jonathan remarked that it’s rare to find this much outdoor space in a New York City apartment, referring to their three terraces. He said it reminded him of the lifestyle they enjoyed when they first moved to Los Angeles.

The garden features classic elements like wood fences, fountains, and patterned tiles, along with beautiful plants and sculpted ironwork, including a whimsical elephant topiary. These details create the charming ‘English garden’ atmosphere the owners adore.

A fireplace was a must-have for their home, and they designed a cozy reading room with bookshelves built into the walls and comfortable, custom-made chairs. Like their bedroom, the space is filled with color and interesting patterns – the bedroom features embroidered wallpaper and a beautiful, light blue headboard shaped like a seashell.

Jonathan always said the kids’ room was his favorite part of the house. It has a big, custom-built bunk bed designed with plenty of space for privacy and storage, and it’s where Zooey’s two children—Elsie, who is 10, and Charlie, who is 8—with her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik, sleep.

“When the kids saw it for the first time, they screamed,” Zooey shared. “They were so excited.”

In late October 2019, shortly after starting to date—they’d met while filming *Carpool Karaoke*—Zooey and Jonathan publicly confirmed their relationship on Instagram. They shared photos and videos from their night at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, with Zooey writing that she was still recovering from how frightened she’d been by the costumed characters.

The actress made the purrrfect plus one to his brother’s Halloween wedding.

Zooey shared a sweet New Year’s message about Jonathan on Instagram, calling him her ‘2020 MVP’ and thanking him for bringing her joy during a challenging year. She also wished everyone a brighter 2021.

The couple revealed they were engaged in August 2023, excitedly sharing the news on Instagram with the message, “Forever starts now!!!”
