Stephen Colbert is lining up his next career move (jokes included).
Two weeks following CBS’s announcement that they were ending The Late Show after 33 years on television, the show’s current presenter hinted at potential future business endeavors he was considering.
On the July 28th installment of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” I, a die-hard fan, found myself on cloud nine as Stephen asked for some advice from none other than Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, the brilliant minds behind the wildly successful podcast “Las Culturistas.
“I’m going to need a gig soon,” the 61-year-old quipped, “so sell me on podcasting. Is it fun?”
Colbert’s potential foray into podcasting was met with enthusiasm by his “Fire Island” co-stars, who playfully suggested that if he succeeds, they might be knocked off Time Magazine’s list of top 100 podcasts ever made.
In his response, Rogers indicated that we were likely near the bottom of the list, which means our chances of moving up are slim. Essentially, it seems we’ll be waiting for a while longer if we decide to start something new.
Humorously put aside, Rogers offered his top suggestion for Colbert should he embark on a podcast journey: Simply be authentic.
Yang also proposed a concept for a theoretical audio series that would feature Colbert’s spouse, Evelyn McGee-Colbert.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to suggest a delightful idea: indulge in some quality time with your beloved partner, Evie. Engage in enchanting dates and consider recording these moments for a captivating narrative. You could either keep the microphones on during the date or share the details afterward. This way, you can create memorable experiences while also sharing them with others.
But when Colbert asked “dates with each other?” Rogers jokingly clarified, “That’s up to you.”
As a lifestyle expert, I must say, creating a couples’ podcast could be an adorable and engaging venture for Colbert, who’s been gracing our screens with his talk show since 2015.
Colbert even asked the pair, “Will you produce it?” to which they both happily agreed.
Towards the end of the show, Yang and Rogers (who will be hosting their fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards next month) also awarded Colbert a mock prize for Best Potential Podcaster. To everyone’s amusement, Colbert graciously received this faux award.
CBS declared on July 17 that Colbert’s last episode will air on May 2026. However, the reason behind the network’s decision to conclude the show is not yet disclosed.
In a joint statement, CBS executives George Cheeks, Amy Reisenbach, and David Stapf clarified that their decision was solely based on financial considerations amidst a difficult late-night landscape. They emphasized that this choice has no connection whatsoever to the show’s performance, content, or any other ongoing matters at Paramount.
The high regard we hold for Stephen Colbert and his exceptional team complicated our painful choice,” they said further. “We are deeply thankful and eager to pay tribute to Stephen, as well as celebrate the show during the upcoming 10 months, sharing this experience with the countless fans and viewers who appreciate it.
