Stephen King’s 2-Part Adaptation Scares Its Way To Streaming Domination

As 2025 draws to a close, Stephen King is celebrating another success for one of his most popular stories. This fall, IT: Welcome to Derry premiered as a new HBO Original series. Serving as a prequel to the IT films, it’s quickly become one of the year’s best horror shows.

After the recent conclusion of the IT: Welcome to Derry series, both IT and IT: Chapter Two are now popular on HBO Max globally. In the United States, the 2017 film is currently the most-watched movie on the streaming service, and the 2019 sequel is seventh.

The 2017 film IT is currently the most popular title on HBO Max in several countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Honduras, Iceland, Sweden, Spain, Paraguay, Mexico, Portugal, and Venezuela. The sequel, IT Chapter Two (2019), is also performing well, ranking as a top 3 title in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Spain, Ukraine, and Armenia.

The IT movies have earned over $1 billion worldwide, and that success led to the new HBO series, IT: Welcome to Derry. Andy Muschietti, the director of the first two films, also oversaw the creation of the prequel series, directing multiple episodes.

Director Andy Muschietti recently shared that he’s still working on a longer, combined version of the IT films, offering fans a different way to enjoy his adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. However, there are currently no updates regarding a second season of IT: Welcome to Derry.

Stephen King’s stories have been adapted for movies and TV many times, and Hollywood continues to create new versions of his work. In 2025, two of his novels, The Long Walk and The Running Man, were both released as films.

As a huge fan of horror, I’m so glad all things Pennywise are now available to stream! You can dive into the complete IT saga – including the first IT movie, IT Chapter Two, and even the chilling IT: Welcome to Derry – all on HBO Max. It’s a terrifying treat for any horror devotee!
