Fans outside the US now have a chance to watch “Mr. Mercedes,” a fantastic series by Stephen King that many have missed. Originally airing in 2017 on the Audience Network and later streaming on Peacock, all three seasons are now available on Netflix, including in Canada. It’s great news for international viewers who haven’t yet discovered this popular show!
According to What’s on Netflix, the series Mr. Mercedes is now available in several European countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, and the Nordic nations, as well as in Israel. Starring Brendan Gleeson as Bill Hodges, the show is based on all three novels in Stephen King’s trilogy: Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, and End of Watch. Fans of King will notice the seasons aren’t presented in the order of the books – Season 2 covers the final book in the series, and Season 3 adapts the second.
Featuring Harry Treadaway as Brady Hartsfield, Holland Taylor as Ida Silver, and Jharrel Jerome as Jerome Robinson, Mr. Mercedes introduces Holly Gibney, a character who has quickly become a fan favorite in Stephen King’s novels. Justine Lupe plays the private detective, who also appeared in HBO’s The Outsider with Cynthia Erivo in the role. Critics loved Mr. Mercedes, giving it a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and praised both Brendan Gleeson’s acting and how faithfully it adapted the original story. Here’s what the show is about:
Mr. Mercedes centers around Bill Hodges (Gleeson), a former detective pulled back into a haunting case when the killer responsible for a horrific mass murder starts sending him unsettling messages. Driven to finally solve the mystery that once eluded him, Hodges finds himself in a gripping psychological battle with Brady Hartsfield (Treadaway), a troubled young man whose increasingly dangerous schemes escalate as the investigation intensifies.

Even though the TV series Mr. Mercedes differed from the original novels – with added storylines, characters, and a more prominent role for the character Holly – Stephen King has publicly stated it’s one of his favorite adaptations. He explained to Variety in 2017 that while it wasn’t a direct copy, the changes actually improved the story, saying,
It’s important to stay true to the original story, because that’s what audiences are paying for. They aren’t just interested in the initial idea; they want the full, developed experience.
While fans rated Mr. Mercedes at 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s still worth watching! The show quickly grabs your attention and delivers a thrilling experience across its 30 episodes. If you’re outside the US, add it to your Netflix list now. Viewers in the United States can stream all three seasons on Peacock.
