Stephen King’s Revelations of Becka Paulson Reportedly Canceled

Hollywood frequently seeks out new versions of existing stories, even if those stories have been adapted before. But just because a project is considered doesn’t mean it will actually get made.

2025 was a great year for Stephen King fans, with many new movies and TV series released. However, the year ended on a down note with some bad news about planned adaptations. The Duffer Brothers officially announced the cancellation of one project, and shortly after, reporter Matt Mitovich revealed in his newsletter that The CW’s adaptation of The Revelations of ‘Becka Paulson was also cancelled.

In July 2020, Deadline reported that The CW was developing a one-hour drama called Revelations, inspired by Stephen King’s short story, The Revelations of ‘Becka Paulson. Maisie Culver (known for Last Man Standing) and Katie Lovejoy (Dead Inside) were set to work on the series, which would be produced by Warner Bros. TV.

The series follows Becca Paulson, an optimistic woman who unexpectedly becomes humanity’s unlikely savior. After a bizarre accident involving a nail gun, she’s chosen by a world-weary Jesus to prevent the apocalypse.

Becca faces a huge challenge: she must convince everyone that Earth is worth saving, and she’ll begin her efforts in her unique and somewhat unusual hometown in the Midwest.

Mitovich reports that the TV show has been cancelled as a result of the recent ownership change at The CW.

The short story from 1984 was turned into an episode of The Outer Limits back in 1997, starring Catherine O’Hara in the lead role.

Nexstar bought The CW in October 2022, and the network has changed a lot since then. It’s moved away from the teen and young adult dramas it was known for, including shows like Jared Padalecki’s Walker. Now, it’s focusing on cheaper programming like reality TV and sports to make the network more profitable.

There Are More Stephen King Adaptations on the Way

As a huge Stephen King fan, I’m really excited about all the new stuff coming to screens! It’s no surprise his stories always do well as movies and shows. Amazon MGM Studios is working on a limited series based on his most famous book, It, and they’re also tackling The Dark Tower as a TV series. Plus, A24 is developing a ten-episode series based on one of his other novels – it’s a great time to be a Constant Reader!

Deadline reported in 2021 that a new project was in development. The first season of It: Welcome to Derry, which performed very well, included clues about key parts of the original novel.

MGM+ has officially renewed The Institute for a second season, and production is expected to move forward.
