A new idea circulating among fans suggests Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley could be crucial in the final battle against Vecna in the fifth season of Stranger Things. Steve and Robin quickly became fan favorites after they first teamed up at Scoops Ahoy in season 3. Having faced threats like the Mind Flayer and explored dangerous locations like a secret Russian base and the Upside Down, the pair have become close friends. But season 5 might reveal they have an even bigger role to play.
Following their time at Scoops Ahoy and Family Video on Stranger Things season 4, Steve and Robin now manage the WSQK radio station while Hawkins is under military control. They’ve been using their morning show, “The Squawk,” to secretly pass information to their friends, helping them navigate the dangerous situation. A new theory circulating on Reddit suggests they might also be compiling a list of local residents’ favorite songs, potentially as a way to help people cope if Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) attacks.
I JUST realized why Robin and Steve work at WSQK!

How Steve & Robin’s New Job Could Save Hawkins’ Residents in Stranger Things Season 5

In the fifth season of Stranger Things, Diana Ross’s song “Upside Down” plays a key role – it’s broadcast on a radio program to warn the characters about important updates. The song was also featured in the trailer for the second part of season 5, which will be released on Netflix on Christmas Day, leading up to a longer finale on New Year’s Eve. While “Upside Down” is significant, the show’s final four episodes could also include many other songs.
In season 4 of Stranger Things, Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) was targeted by Vecna as he tried to open a huge gateway to the Upside Down in Hawkins. Vecna almost succeeded in episode 4, “Dear Billy,” but the group learned from Victor Creel (Robert Englund) that music could weaken him. For Max, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” pulled her back to reality and saved her life by keeping her grounded. Now, Steve and Robin might be hoping to use the same tactic to protect everyone else in Hawkins.
I’ve been thinking about Robin and Steve’s radio show, ‘The Squawk,’ and it’s brilliant! It’s totally possible they were secretly collecting everyone in Hawkins’ favorite songs while taking calls. Knowing Vecna’s always up to something, I bet that information could be a lifesaver, and Steve and Robin could really step up to help. Plus, the radio station seems like the perfect spot for Murray to operate and for the whole group to set up a hidden base. It makes me wonder if taking over WSQK was always part of their plan to help, beyond just doing a fun show!
