As a huge fan, I’m so excited to hear that Stranger Things is finally coming to theaters! Netflix is giving the fifth and final season – officially called Stranger Things 5: The Finale – a special theatrical release. After almost ten years of being a streaming phenomenon, the series will wrap up on December 31st with the last episode. It’s hard to believe one of Netflix’s biggest shows is ending, especially considering how much we’ve all loved it since it first dropped back in 2016. It’s a big moment for all of us who’ve been following the story!

To celebrate the final season, Netflix—which rarely releases films in theaters—is giving fans a special treat: the first episode of Stranger Things 5 will play in movie theaters at the same time it’s available for streaming. Before that, you can watch Stranger Things 5 on Netflix, with the first part now available and the second part premiering on December 25th.

The latest season of Stranger Things, created by The Duffer Brothers and inspired by the films of Stephen King, Steven Spielberg, and John Carpenter, finds the town of Hawkins, Indiana, under military control after a gateway opens to the frightening alternate dimension known as the Upside Down.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in both theaters and on Netflix. It will begin showing in select cinemas on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. Pacific Time – the same time it becomes available on Netflix.

When the show comes out in theaters, the creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, told Tudum it will be a really awesome way to see how the story ends.

Netflix has announced that the special finale release of Stranger Things 5 will only be shown in theaters for one day, giving fans a limited chance to see it on the big screen.

Fans will be able to see Stranger Things 5: The Finale in theaters for a limited time, from December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026. That gives them about 36 hours to experience the conclusion on the big screen before it’s no longer available.

How Long Is Stranger Things 5 The Finale?

Fans will definitely get a full experience when they see Stranger Things 5: The Finale in theaters. The last chapter of the Stranger Things story is expected to be the longest one yet, comparable in length to major movie blockbusters.

Before the fifth season started, there was a lot of talk about the final episodes being like eight movies combined. While the first four episodes weren’t quite that long, the finale will definitely deliver on that promise, being a full-length, movie-style episode.

The Duffer Brothers recently told Collider that the show’s finale will be just over two hours long.

Matt Duffer mentioned that episode four is quite long, running about an hour and twenty minutes. He added that only the final episode is even longer, clocking in at two hours.

Ross Duffer: “A little over two hours.”

Matt: “I don’t know exactly how they got out that every episode was gonna be a movie…”

Ross: “I think we said it.”

Although fans have long hoped for a full-length Stranger Things movie, they’re getting something very close – an exciting, movie-like finale to the series.
