Ross Duffer, one of the creators of Stranger Things, has dismissed rumors about the length of episodes in the upcoming Season 5. Fans have been anticipating the final season this year and there’s been talk that the episodes might be exceptionally long. Some speculation even suggested that every episode of Season 5 would be feature-length, with some exceeding 2.5 hours. The longest was reportedly the series finale, estimated to be around 3 hours. Four others were roughly 2 and a half hours long. The shortest rumored length was for Episode 3, at 1 hour, 55 minutes.
In simpler terms, the fifth season of “Stranger Things” is split into three parts and will air at different times this year. The first part debuts on November 26th, which happens to be a day before Thanksgiving. Additional episodes will air on Christmas and then the season finale is scheduled for New Year’s Eve. Netflix recently shared a teaser trailer for “Stranger Things” Season 5, hinting at an exciting and intense conclusion to the series.
Previously, the series “Stranger Things” has not been hesitant about extended episode durations. The final episode of Season 4 clocked in at 2.5 hours, while one episode lasted over 90 minutes. In comparison, earlier seasons usually had episodes ranging from approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
Given the numerous character developments and storylines that need resolution in Stranger Things Season 5, it’s likely that some episodes will run longer than usual. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the series finale turned out to be the longest episode yet, acting as a grand culmination of the ongoing narrative. However, with eight episodes at their disposal, there’s no necessity for every installment to be as lengthy as a feature film. Even if some episodes fall within the 45-60 minute range, the creative team has demonstrated their ability to create engaging and gripping narratives within those time frames. The Duffer brothers stating that the reported run times were “far from truthful” suggests that some of them might actually be significantly shorter than initially suggested. Had the speculated run times been close to accurate, it’s likely they wouldn’t have felt the need to address the rumor. It’s reassuring that the Duffers clarified the situation, effectively debunking the rumor before it could spread further. We can only hope that the actual run times will be revealed soon, enabling fans to prepare their viewing plans accordingly.
