Some fans were surprised to hear that Season 5 will be released in three volumes. But the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, explained that this approach allows them to tell a more expansive story.
Ross Duffer recently told SFX Magazine, via GamesRadar+, that he’s particularly pleased with the first part of the new season. Unlike season four, which was split into two volumes due to pandemic-related delays, they intentionally planned for this split from the beginning. This means Volume One feels like a complete, extended movie with its own satisfying conclusion. He emphasized that the split wasn’t anyone’s fault – the pandemic simply forced their hand last time.
Ross, the creator of the series, said the first volume’s final episode was the most technically difficult they’d ever created. While episode four presented the biggest technical challenges, he noted the finale was the most emotionally demanding to produce.
Honestly, I was a mess watching the latest episodes – I rarely cry outside of a Pixar film, but this really got to me! And I’m so glad the creators are releasing it in stages, like a slow burn. It gives us fans time to really savor everything and talk about it between releases, which is exactly what a show like this deserves. Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, seems to feel the same way, and I couldn’t agree more.
Matarazzo believes the show will create a lasting connection with viewers, something he feels is rare these days with streaming. He misses the excitement of weekly events like watching Breaking Bad and then discussing it with friends and at watch parties – a shared experience that’s become less common.
Stranger Things Season 5 Will Feature A Revamped Vecna
The new season picks up a year after the fourth season’s events, with the group determined to find and defeat Vecna after the rifts appeared in Hawkins. Their mission gets more difficult when the military arrives and starts pursuing Eleven. As the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance nears, the group faces a final, dangerous battle.
As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear Matt Duffer talk about how they’ve upped the ante with Vecna for the final episodes! Apparently, he’s become even more terrifying and powerful. He used to be scary because he messed with your head, but now he’s physically dangerous too. Duffer actually compared him to Freddy Krueger, but like, a much stronger version – seriously intimidating!
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will arrive on Netflix in two parts. The first four episodes will be available starting November 26th, followed by three more episodes on Christmas Day. The series will conclude with a final episode airing on December 31st.
