The creators of Stranger Things know many TV shows have disappointing endings, and they’ve worked hard to make sure the fifth season avoids the same pitfall.
The epic conclusion to the Hawkins story is almost here! After nearly ten years, Netflix’s popular sci-fi series is ending, and the creators have a lot of loose ends to tie up and characters to give satisfying conclusions to – all within just eight episodes, though they are longer than usual.
It’s likely that many more people have failed than succeeded, because I believe it’s challenging when you’ve been working towards something for a long time – the pressure of expectations can be overwhelming.
We studied the finales of several acclaimed shows, including Six Feet Under – which has one of the best endings I’ve ever seen – as well as Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights. We weren’t focused on the storylines themselves, but rather on what made those finales so effective and resonant with audiences, including ourselves.

Matt Duffer explained about the final season of Stranger Things that it felt natural and unavoidable. He believes unsuccessful shows or endings often happen when creators prioritize shocking or surprising viewers instead of staying true to the story.
We’re aiming to make the finale feel true to the series and ensure each character’s ending feels natural and unavoidable. That’s our main goal.
Everyone’s been sharing their predictions for the final season, wondering who might die and if any characters thought to be gone could somehow come back – many are hoping to see Eddie Munson return!
We’ve been closely analyzing the latest trailer and paying attention to what the cast has been saying. Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) hinted at how Eddie’s legacy will continue in season 5, and Joe Keery suggested we’ll see the competitive dynamic between Jonathan and Steve return.

In Season 5, we’ll be introduced to Dr. Kay, played by Linda Hamilton. Plus, Holly Wheeler, the youngest of the Wheeler family, will be back with a larger role, now played by Nell Fisher.
The show has released the first five minutes of its fifth season, revealing what happened to Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) when he disappeared at the beginning of the first season.
As a longtime fan, it really feels like we’re coming back to where it all began with this fifth season. It seems like we’re finally heading back to the Upside Down for one last, epic showdown, bringing the whole story full circle.
