The first episode of the final season of Stranger Things is now available after a long wait, but you might want to quickly remember what’s happened so far. Instead of rewatching all four previous seasons, you can get up to speed with just four key episodes provided by the show’s creators before starting season 5.
If you’ve been keeping up with the show, you’re likely ready for season 5. But if you’re short on time, the creators, the Duffer Brothers, recently told THR the four episodes you absolutely need to rewatch to get up to speed. Interestingly, these key episodes are all from seasons 2 and 4 – none are from the first season. Check out the list below to quickly catch up!
- Season 2, episode 4: Will the Wise
- Season 2, episode 6: The Spy
- Season 4, episode 7: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab
- Season 4, episode 9: The Piggyback
Matt explained that season two was when they began developing the show’s larger story and hinting at its potential as a long-running series. He believes this early focus on building the mythology is why those elements still resonate with viewers. He also highlighted season four, specifically the ‘Massacre at Hawkins Lab’ episode, as being particularly important.
Ross Duffer mentioned that the episode begins to reveal more about the origins and rules of the Upside Down, offering some explanations to long-standing questions. He also noted that the storylines involving Henry and Eleven continue to be important as the fifth season develops, making it a good episode to rewatch.
One of the most compelling parts of ‘Stranger Things’ has always been the Upside Down, but honestly, it’s remained pretty enigmatic. We’ve been left wondering about its origins, why it’s stuck with Hawkins, and especially, why Will Byers seems so connected to it. The Duffer Brothers have promised us some answers in the final season, and I’m really hoping the first episode of season 5 starts to deliver on that promise. I need to know what’s going on with that alternate dimension!
The first part of Stranger Things season 5, with four episodes, is now available on Netflix. The final three episodes will be released on Christmas, and the very last episode will premiere on New Year’s Eve.
