Stranger Things May Have Just Spoiled Two Major Pieces of Season 5 for Fans Really Paying Attention

Details about the final season of Stranger Things may have been revealed unexpectedly by Netflix. The newly released trailer for Season 5 gives fans the most comprehensive preview yet, including some significant plot points. We see Eleven developing her abilities with a powerful energy blast affecting the entire town of Hawkins, and Will Byers confronting Vecna. Be warned: spoilers for Season 5 follow.

Fans have discovered something fascinating while examining the official images released with the trailer. By looking at the hidden data within the images, one X user, @UpsideDownScoop, found that many include information about the specific episode and moment they depict. While there are quite a few of these details, two stand out. The first is a shot of Will and Vecna, which appears to be from the very last moments of Season 5, Episode 4.

Next, we see Dustin Henderson and Steve Harrington, looking pretty beat up. This image is reportedly from Episode 6.

A user named UpsideDownScoop initially noticed timestamps hidden within the image data, and ComicBook has since confirmed these timestamps appear in images from the official press site. While this information might not be completely accurate, the timestamp for the first episode matches the previously announced lengths of the final episodes.

What This Means For Stranger Things Season 5

Okay, so the trailer gave away a big scene – a confrontation between Will and Vecna, who we know as the former Number One, Henry Creel. Vecna tells Will he’s going to need his help one last time, and now some decoded images from promotional material seem to confirm this happens right at the end of Episode 4, ‘Sorcerer’. If that’s true, it’s going to be a seriously frustrating cliffhanger! Basically, we’ll be left hanging until Christmas Day to find out what Vecna’s got planned for poor Will. It’s a long wait, folks!

The trailer suggests the final season’s story will start with life returning to normal – kids back in school and the breach to the Upside Down seemingly closed. However, problems will quickly escalate, culminating in Vecna’s full appearance around episode four. The second part of the season will likely involve the group venturing into the Upside Down to save Will, or, if theories are correct and Will is acting as Vecna’s spy, they’ll have to try and free him from the villain’s influence. The brief shot of Joyce Byers, appearing shortly before the scene hinting at Will’s connection to Vecna, adds to the suspense and suggests a difficult journey ahead.

Steve will likely survive at least the first part of the final episode of Stranger Things Season 5, offering fans some relief. There’s been a lot of concern he might die, and while that’s still possible, he makes it over two-thirds of the way through the season. Although a few main characters are still expected to die in the final season, those deaths will probably happen in the next-to-last episode or the finale itself, for maximum dramatic impact.
