Earlier this month, before the fifth and final season of Stranger Things was released, rumors surfaced about some friction between the show’s stars, Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour. They portrayed a father-daughter relationship on screen and shared many scenes together.
Okay, so there was this whole thing – a pretty detailed complaint surfaced that kicked off months of investigation. But honestly, seeing the cast at the Stranger Things Season 5 premiere in L.A., you’d never know anything was up – they all seemed genuinely friendly. I spoke with Millie Bobby Brown, and she shared what it was actually like working with David Harbour during all of this.
When asked about appearing together at the premiere, Brown explained that they’ve maintained a close relationship for a decade. He emphasized their long-standing unity, their deep love for the show, and the importance of their friendship.
Sources have confirmed an investigation took place and that the matter has been resolved. It was also revealed that Brown had a designated chaperone on set while working with Harbour.
Season 5, Volume 1 features Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour’s characters, who share more screen time together this season following their reunion at the end of Season 4. Brown, known for her role in Enola Holmes, said it was “so nice” and “really exciting” to work with Harbour again.
It felt really nostalgic revisiting their relationship, because it echoed the dynamics from Seasons 2 and 3. We see Eleven becoming more independent and finding her voice, while Hopper struggles to adjust his parenting style. That familiar tension is back, and I can’t wait for viewers to see it. A lot of fans love their scenes together, and I’m thrilled to bring that back to the screen.
Millie Bobby Brown Felt ‘Safe’ Working With David Harbour
I had a chance to talk to Brown, and she said pretty much the same thing. She told me David and she have a fantastic working relationship – they really collaborate closely, not just when they’re filming, but also when they’re prepping for each scene. It’s clear they put a lot of effort into their scenes together!
She shared her excitement for people to finally see the culmination of the effort she and her partner put into ending their relationship, and what that process looked like. She especially hoped the fans, particularly those who rooted for Hopper and Eleven, would appreciate it.
Brown hinted that some upcoming scenes will be very powerful and emotionally resonant. She expressed excitement about working with her scene partner, saying it motivates her to deliver her best performance because she knows he will do the same.
When asked about feeling secure during emotionally challenging scenes with David Harbour, the actress explained that she absolutely did. They’ve been working together for a decade and she trusts everyone on set. Because they’ve collaborated for so long, and portray a father-daughter relationship, they’ve developed a close bond, particularly after filming some very intense scenes together in Season 2.
The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 is now available. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the final episodes will air on December 31st.
