Stranger Things Season 5 Audience Score Slumps As Vol 2 is A Confirmed Hit

As a total movie and TV buff, I was checking out Netflix on Christmas Day, and wow, they really had everything covered! First, it was great seeing so many people tuning in for the NFL games they streamed, and then to cap off the day, the final part of Stranger Things Season 5 dropped. It started streaming at 8 PM Eastern time and immediately shot to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list. But here’s the weird thing – even though everyone’s watching it, the initial audience reviews were surprisingly… not great. It’s a hit, for sure, but the reaction has been a little mixed, which is definitely unexpected!

The latest batch of episodes from Stranger Things season 5 launched on Christmas Day and quickly climbed the charts. It started at number 3 with a score of 585 (according to FlixPatrol), behind only Man vs Baby and Emily in Paris. Starting at 8 PM, it’s already jumped to number 2 with a score of 746, surpassing Man vs Baby and nearing Emily in Paris’s lead. While these numbers are impressive, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a bit unexpected – it’s currently at 73

While not terrible, the current season’s audience score is noticeably lower than the 89

Why Is Stranger Things Season 5 Not Rated As Highly As Previous Seasons?

So, why isn’t season 5 getting as good of reviews as earlier seasons, based on Rotten Tomatoes scores? There are a few possible explanations. One reason is that the season is still airing, and many viewers prefer to watch the entire season before rating it. While some rate shows as they watch, others wait until the end. Season 4 had two parts, but season 5 has three, with the final episodes releasing on New Year’s Eve. This means it will be New Year’s Day before all the viewers who like to finish a series before reviewing can submit their opinions.

With season 5 being the show’s final chapter, expectations are incredibly high. Stranger Things has become a massive hit, and its dedicated fans, who have followed the story from the beginning, deserve a satisfying conclusion that honors their investment in these characters and the show as a whole. It’s understandable they want a truly great ending.

It’s always more challenging to end a whole series than just one season, particularly with a large cast of characters. Thankfully, Season 5 has already given many characters satisfying moments, and even those who haven’t had much focus, like Will, have gotten their due. Now, the show needs a strong and rewarding conclusion that ties up all the loose ends, and the Duffer Brothers seem capable of delivering it.

Stranger Things‘ series finale will stream on Netflix on New Year’s Eve.
