The final two-hour episode of Stranger Things Season 5 was enough to make it a huge hit! Netflix has announced that the season is now the sixth most popular English-language TV series in the service’s history – it didn’t even need a surprise bonus episode to get there.
Even before all episodes were available, Stranger Things Season 5 was already popular on Netflix, ranking ninth based on the first seven episodes. Once viewership numbers for the final episodes were added, it climbed higher, surpassing the first seasons of Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit in the rankings.
Season 5 of Stranger Things is currently the second most popular season, following Season 4. However, the total number of viewers for Season 5 is still growing and will continue to be counted by Netflix for another month, until March.
Last week, Season 5 of Stranger Things was the third most popular show on Netflix, racking up 9.3 million views. What’s more, the show’s first four seasons continued to be among the top 10 most-watched for the seventh week in a row.
Stranger Things Season 5 Continues to Climb the Netflix Charts Despite Conformity Gate
Season 5 of Stranger Things has been very popular on Netflix, but the show’s ending has caused disagreement among fans. A popular theory proposed that the finale didn’t reveal the characters’ true fate, but rather a fabricated story created by the villain, Vecna. Many fans thought a hidden ninth episode would be released on Netflix on January 7th, providing the real conclusion. However, that didn’t happen.
Okay, so there isn’t a hidden extra episode of Stranger Things Season 5 coming, which is a bummer, but it’s not the end of the story! They’re actually expanding the Stranger Things universe with spin-offs. The first one we’re getting is an animated series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, and it’s set during the earlier seasons, which I’m super excited about! And apparently, there’s even more on the way after that, so it’s not goodbye just yet!
If you’re eager for more Stranger Things, Netflix dropped a behind-the-scenes look on Monday. The video offers a glimpse into the creation of the show’s final season.
The actor discussed how the romantic relationship between his character, Jonathan Byers, and Nancy Wheeler (played by Natalie Dyer) concluded. He felt the ending of their storyline was realistic and genuine.
After spending so much time with these characters, you naturally become invested in their journey and want a satisfying conclusion for them. However, the way the story ended felt authentic, and that felt more crucial than simply seeing them together. It was a beautifully written and honest scene that really resonated with me.
Stranger Things Season 5 is available to stream now on Netflix.
