Just under a month after its fifth season premiered on Thanksgiving, the show was back with more episodes. Unfortunately, this new set of episodes performed worse than the first, setting a disappointing record.
The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 received positive reviews and included the highest-rated episode in the show’s history. However, the second part of the season saw the second-lowest ratings of any episode so far.
The seventh episode of Season 5, titled “The Bridge,” hasn’t been well-received by critics and currently has a rating of 6.5 based on 25,000 reviews. However, the episode with the lowest rating overall is still “The Lost Sister” from Season 2.
The first episode of Season 5, titled “The Crawl,” is a fan favorite, currently ranking as the fifth-highest rated episode of the show. It has received a solid 8.0 out of 10 based on over 37,000 reviews.
The episode “Sorcerer” is now tied with “Dear Billy” (Season 4, Episode 4) as the highest-rated episode, both receiving a score of 9.5 from 59,000 viewers. However, “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab” (Season 4, Episode 7) remains the top-rated episode overall, with a score of 9.6 based on 56,000 reviews.
Netflix divided the fifth season of the show into three volumes, a move that proved controversial. The first volume launched on Thanksgiving to the lowest critical scores in the series’ history, though reviews did improve somewhat over time. The second volume fared better with critics, earning an 84
Despite the positive aspects, some viewers criticized a recent scene where a character came out to his friends. While this moment was meant to showcase his personal growth and self-acceptance after a long journey, some reviews described it as feeling unnatural and criticized it as being motivated by current social trends.
Some viewers felt a particular scene didn’t fit with the high stakes of the overall story. Others criticized the show’s speed, saying characters weren’t developed enough and that some scenes weren’t crucial to the plot.
