Stranger Things Star Officially Responds to Casting Rumors for Major MCU Spider-Man Role: “Let’s Go”

With Stranger Things finished, its actors are starting to explore new roles. Several stars have already landed new projects – Caleb McLaughlin is doing voice work in the animated film Goat, and Sadie Sink is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Fans are wondering if other Stranger Things cast members might join Sink, David Harbour, and Joseph Quinn in the Marvel world, and Joe Keery has now shared his thoughts on the possibility.

While promoting his new film, Cold Storage, Joe Keery spoke with Screen Rant about speculation that he might play Harry Osborn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He jokingly acknowledged the rumors, saying he’s ‘keeping his eyes open’ and eager to see a script, adding with enthusiasm, ‘Let’s go!’

Now Is the Perfect Time To Introduce the MCU’s Harry Osborn

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I always figured Harry Osborn would eventually show up in the MCU. He’s such a core part of the story! But honestly, leaving him out of Tom Holland’s first few movies made sense. We’d already seen those dynamics play out with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield – two full trilogies worth! The filmmakers clearly wanted to build something new and give characters like Ned a chance to shine. Now, though, after ten years with Tom as Spider-Man, I think it’s time. We’re definitely due for a new take on Harry Osborn, and I’m really excited to see how they bring him in.

It’s highly unlikely Joe Keery, or any new actor, will play Harry Osborn in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. The film already has a lot going on, and adding such a significant character would be a risk. However, Tom Holland will likely continue to star in future solo Spider-Man films. Brand New Day is meant to kick off a fresh storyline for Spider-Man, who remains one of Marvel’s biggest draws. While Avengers: Secret Wars will essentially restart the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland’s Spider-Man story will probably continue in this new version, allowing Marvel to keep capitalizing on the popular Spider-Man franchise.

With Ned and Peter no longer close after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s now potential for Harry to reappear. The upcoming story, Brand New Day, seems to be maintaining the spell that made MJ and Ned forget Peter Parker. While Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are returning as MJ and Ned, their roles appear to be small, mostly to highlight Peter’s emotional struggles – MJ is even dating someone new. This new storyline could focus on Peter making new friends, potentially setting up Harry as an important character in future Spider-Man movies.

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe decides to include Harry Osborn, Joe Keery would be a fantastic pick. He physically resembles the character, and his acting style would suit the role well. Previous portrayals of Harry have shown him as a supportive and caring friend to Peter Parker, which shares similarities with Keery’s character Steve Harrington, but with enough distinction to keep things fresh. Harry’s complex relationship with Norman Osborn is central to his story, and it would be great to see Keery demonstrate his dramatic range in those scenes, creating a truly engaging dynamic between the two.
