Joe Keery, known for his role in Stranger Things, has reached number one on the UK music charts with a song he performs that’s also featured in the show’s soundtrack. This is the first time he’s topped the charts as a musician.
Joe Keery, known for his role as Steve Harrington on the popular Netflix series, has been creating and releasing music as Djo since 2019.
Keery has enjoyed considerable success with his music, and many of his songs have been streamed millions of times. However, one song has become significantly more popular than all his others.
On January 9th, 2026, Djo’s song ‘End of Beginning’ reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, ending Taylor Swift’s seven-week run with ‘The Fate of Ophelia’.
Originally released on the album ‘Decide’ in September 2022, the synth-pop song ‘End of Beginning’ gained popularity on TikTok. Due to this success, it was re-released as a single in March 2024.

The song became much more popular after it was used in the final episode of Stranger Things’ fifth season.
As of today, Djo’s song ‘End of Beginning’ has surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify, making him the 84th most popular artist worldwide on the platform.
This is not the first time that Stranger Things has prompted a new wave of popularity for a single.

The fourth season of Stranger Things caused a resurgence in popularity for Kate Bush’s song ‘Running Up That Hill’ (from the album ‘Hounds of Love’), sending it to the top of the UK Singles Chart for the first time – an impressive feat considering the song first charted 37 years earlier.
The song has become a streaming hit, reaching over 1.5 billion plays on Spotify after three years.
As Stranger Things wraps up after five seasons – and it really does seem like that’s it – I get the feeling Joe Keery, who we all know and love as Steve Harrington, might be shifting his focus. While he’s become a huge star thanks to the show, he’s also Djo, a seriously talented musician, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he leans more into that side of things going forward. It feels like he’s ready to explore that creative path a bit more fully.
Despite the series seemingly ending, some fans still believe a hidden ninth episode exists, and this theory could actually change how TV shows are made in the future.
