The final episode of Stranger Things has aired, marking the end of a hugely popular show. Now, everyone is wondering what’s next for the series and its talented cast. While we’ll have to wait and see what most of them do, one actor has hinted at returning for another It project following It: Welcome to Derry, and fans are excited about the possibility.
A surprising moment in the first season of It: Welcome to Derry showed a missing person poster of Richie Tozier to his mother, Margaret. The poster featured Finn Wolfhard, who played Richie in the It remake. Wolfhard recently hinted in an interview with ScreenRant that this wasn’t just a random detail, and that even more significant things are planned for his character in the series.
Wolfhard revealed he’d known about the project for years, recalling that discussions began around 2021. Both Barbara and Andy Muschietti had told him he would be part of it, and he hinted at another exciting development related to the show that fans will eventually see.
When Could Finn Wolfhard Return to the It Franchise?
The series It: Return to Derry is a prequel to both It movies, but it establishes that Pennywise doesn’t experience time in a straightforward way. This explains a key moment where Pennywise reveals to Marge that he knows Richie and his friends will eventually defeat him. He’s trying to prevent that future from happening by acting now.
The main idea is that because Pennywise seems to be everywhere, it might be possible for Richie and Pennywise to meet again somehow. Richie can’t just randomly show up in the past or future, but if Pennywise is trying to prevent events from happening, that could lead to a confrontation with Richie at a different point in time.
It’s possible Finn Wolfhard could reprise his role in a future installment of the It series, taking place after It: Chapter Two. Since Richie Tozier survived the events of the second chapter, another story could be told. Even though Pennywise appears to be defeated, the filmmakers could find a way to bring the characters together for a new conflict.
