Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Toyline Reveals Original Monsters (And Brand New Character)

Fans of Stranger Things can look forward to more adventures later this year with the new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. This series bridges the gap between seasons 2 and 3 of the original show. While it revisits familiar times, Tales From ’85 will introduce exciting new elements, including two new monsters and a brand-new character who will join the show’s established favorites.

Jazwares is releasing a new line of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 toys featuring popular characters like Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, and Eleven. Each figure comes with a special weapon or accessory. The line also introduces Nikki Baxter, a brand new character, along with two original monsters: the Vine Dog and the Gourde Hord. You’ll be able to find these figures exclusively at Target. The Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Toyline Brings In Some New Blood, But Who Are They?’

Nikki Baxter

The latest installment introduces a great combination of familiar faces and brand new monsters and characters. Let’s start with Nikki Baxter, played by Odessa A’zion. A’zion describes Nikki as having a rebellious, “punk rock” personality. Nikki arrives in Hawkins as a new student and, having never really had close friends before, quickly becomes part of the group, acting as their strong protector. A’zion explains that Nikki’s Dungeons & Dragons character is a barbarian, perfectly fitting her role as the team’s muscle – they were missing that element, and she completes the group (according to Netflix).

Nikki Baxter includes a special flashlight that has multiple functions. It not only shows hidden details painted on the figure, but it can also project a monster image onto walls or other surfaces. Plus, she comes with two weapon accessories!

Will Byers

The other character in this series is Will Byers. He includes a flashlight and blacklight, and a disc to project a monster image. Byers also has two weapon attachments that can be used separately or connected to create a more powerful weapon.

Vine Dog

Let’s talk about the new monsters, starting with the massive Vine Dog. This creature is completely new to the Stranger Things world – imagine a Demo Dog taken over by a carnivorous plant! It’s mostly grayish-black with bright green spikes, tail, and mouth. Like a Demogorgon, its mouth opens wide, but here’s the twist: the Vine Dog can be destroyed to reveal a small figure of Mike trapped inside a green orb. This likely connects to a key scene in the show and also gives us a better idea of just how huge the Vine Dog really is.

The Gourd Horde

Another new addition to the toy line is The Gourd Horde, a spooky, possessed pumpkin. While it starts as a normal pumpkin, it’s been transformed into a terrifying figure with messy vines, jagged teeth, and limbs made of vines. Given the name ‘The Gourd Horde,’ it seems likely there will be many of these frightening pumpkins in the overall story.

Mike and Eleven

The final two figures are each sold individually and include one or two accessories. Mike comes with a powerful hockey stick, and Eleven has a waffle plus something that looks like either armor or a backpack – it’s difficult to tell from this view. Both figures also feature hidden paint details that can be revealed with the HIC flashlight, although a flashlight isn’t included with either figure.

Jazwares’ new ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ toys are now in stores at Target. They aren’t listed on Target’s website yet, but we’ll update this page with a link as soon as they are.
