Street Fighter 5 Beats SF6 In One Crucial Way

As a long-time Street Fighter fan, I have to say Street Fighter 6 is a huge step up! While Street Fighter 5 eventually became a really solid game with all the updates they added, Street Fighter 6 just blows it away. The graphics are stunningly realistic, and the new single-player mode feels like a full RPG – it’s seriously addictive. Plus, seeing all my favorite characters reimagined is amazing. My only slight disappointment? It doesn’t quite have as much content right now as Street Fighter 5 had by this point, but I’m confident they’ll add more!

I’m really enjoying Season 3 of Street Fighter 6! Alex is the newest character to join the fight, and he dropped on March 18, 2026. It’s cool that Ingrid finished off the season, and it makes me think we’ll definitely get a Season 4 with even more fighters. They’ve been doing a lot with balance updates, Battle Passes for cool outfits in World Tour, and other stuff, but some players, including me, are starting to feel like we could use a bit more new content overall.

Street Fighter 6 Has Barely Created Any Meaningful Character Cosmetics Since Its Launch 3 Years Ago

As a big Street Fighter 6 fan, one of my biggest frustrations is the lack of online customization options. It feels like Capcom is holding back on cool outfits and looks for the main fighters. A lot of the unique cosmetic stuff seems reserved for the single-player World Tour mode, where you create your own character. And honestly, the recent collaboration events – like the Spy x Family, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Monster Hunter crossovers – mostly just give you stuff for that created character, and not much for the core roster. It’s a little disappointing when I’m hoping to show off a cool look in online battles!

Players are using the cosmetics from the World Tour mode, but it’s clear that most of the new outfits and customization options are going there, not to the standard Ranked, Versus, or other online modes. Detailed character outfits are hard to come by, and even popular characters like Ken and Ryu don’t get many alternate color schemes. While fans love the new characters in Street Fighter 6, they’re puzzled by the limited amount of cosmetic content available for the increasing number of fighters.

Let’s look at costumes in more detail: characters in Street Fighter 6 can have up to four different outfits. Some of these are highly detailed, with realistic movement that fits how the character fights. Others are simply updated versions of classic looks. Take Ken, for example – he only has three outfits. One is his basic red gi from Street Fighter 2, another is his standard appearance, and the third is a unique red leather jacket inspired by concept art for Street Fighter 6. He doesn’t have anything beyond those three.

Street Fighter 5 Had A Wide Assortment Of Character Skins For Players To Choose From

It’s surprising that Street Fighter 6 has so few character outfits, especially considering how many options were available in Street Fighter 5. Almost every character in SF5 had five or more completely different looks, and many of those had multiple color variations. For example, Chun-Li had 19 unique outfits, including one designed in collaboration with Darkstalkers. Similarly, Ken had seven outfits in SF5, featuring armor inspired by Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter.

Many of the costumes in Street Fighter 5 drew inspiration from other Capcom games, offering fun crossovers and letting players customize their characters. The game featured a wide variety of outfits, including matching tracksuits, outfits based on classic looks, and seasonal holiday themes, particularly as the game was updated over time. Because Street Fighter 5 had so many costumes, fans now expect new cosmetic options with each update, so it feels unusual when updates don’t include them.

Focus On Battle Pass Items & World Tour Accessories Distracts Capcom From Other Content

One recurring complaint about Street Fighter 6 is how new content is released. When new characters are added, the accompanying Battle Pass often includes minor items primarily for the World Tour mode, and not for the more popular versus modes. Players feel that a single character color, sometimes offered as a reward, isn’t enough value for the price, especially when compared to the full outfits that were available in Street Fighter 5.

Honestly, right now there are way more ways to change how my characters look with mods than there are in the actual game. They just added Outfit 4 costumes for Dee Jay and Elena, which is cool, but only getting summer outfits for two characters feels kinda limited. I love how much I can customize things in World Tour and Battle Hub, but when I jump into Fighting Ground, it feels bare bones in terms of outfits and stuff. They really need to add more options there!

The limited number of costumes available for core characters might be due to higher development costs. However, Capcom will keep facing comparisons to Street Fighter 5 if they don’t release more outfits. The missed opportunity for exciting collaboration skins in Street Fighter 6 suggests that cosmetic items aren’t a major focus this time around, which is a step back from the plentiful options available in the previous game.
