With the new Street Fighter 6 Sagat DLC comes a new guide to the tiger kick online!
Capcom’s latest DLC drop brings back the Muay Thai king himself to the roster.
But how does one play him, and can you just spam tiger shots until the very end?
Street Fighter 6 Sagat Guide
Firstly, yes!
In the second instance, you can engage with the looming Street Fighter 6 version of Sagat not only as a zoner but also as a player who utilizes strategic holding back or bluffing tactics, unlike his past iterations in Street Fighter games where he was versatile across various playstyles. Or to put it another way, in the case of Street Fighter 4, Sagat was notoriously overpowered.
In simpler terms, the recovery time between his tiger attacks is longer, making them less frequent, particularly noticeable in his lower tiger attack. Yet, he performs exceptionally well as a reliable base character, boasting a versatile move set overall.
In Street Fighter 6, Sagat’s tiger punch still has a slow 50-frame startup, which means opponents can easily attack if they read the move correctly. However, his high tiger shots are quicker compared to this. Despite being outmatched by crouching attacks, the tiger punch can be effectively used as a long-range control tool or for capitalizing on missed attacks.
Regarding the close-range tiger shot, it’s best to use it infrequently. The reason being, it compels your opponent to either anticipate and jump early or read the block. On the other hand, long-range attacks are performed with heavy tiger shots since they leave the screen more swiftly compared to slower medium ones.

However, medium tiger punches are great for follow-ups with drive rush as it follows alongside.
In Street Fighter 6, Sagat tends to utilize light DP uppercuts over medium ones because the latter recover too slowly. However, I’ve noticed that his forward heavy kick works well for safer anti-airs, particularly against neutral jumps. This move can even chain into his level 3 super when dealing with these types of jumps, making it a more secure option. Additionally, it allows for easier target combos to inflict greater damage.

In summary, use your tiger shots wisely and don’t spam without thinking!
Tiger Unplug
In Street Fighter 6, Sagat’s move that I frequently employ is the three-hit tiger knee loop with low jabs. This technique can be effective against players who overly defend by crouching, as you can quickly throw three light jabs while performing a tiger knee maneuver in a crouching position. Although this move can easily be countered by standing up, if the opponent blocks while crouching, it leaves you with a two-point advantage. This advantage allows you to loop back into the move unexpectedly and catch your adversary off guard when they try to retaliate!

At the wall, a hidden medium punch called an EX tiger shot can leave your opponent in a vulnerable state. Keep following up with these attacks until you run out of space, as they will likely continue to be hit unless they are using DPs or super moves. This move is perfect for dealing the final blow against an opponent or just playing aggressively. It even sets up a DP if used near the wall!
In Street Fighter 6, Sagat poses a danger at any point across the screen due to his effective use of projectiles and skillful close-range attacks. He can often win the fight by making shrewd guesses about his opponent’s movements.

In a manner reminiscent of Sagat, it’s crucial to adapt your strategy by being more responsive to his moves. This is because, should you miss or misunderstand any of his attacks, he will have at least four effective retaliation options at his disposal to capitalize on your mistake!
However, he heavily depends on a strong foundation, which involves understanding his opponent’s attack patterns. Misjudged tiger shots might result in unwanted jumps, and his heavy attacks expose him to potential harm due to their vulnerability.
So play like the king methodically and put his 7 ft 1 legs to full use!
