Strictly Come Dancing confirms huge format twist that’ll ‘change everything’

Strictly Come Dancing is changing how judges vote. Head Judge Shirley Ballas will have a little less influence in the final decisions.

For the past seven years, Shirley had the final say in who stayed on the show, but now all of the judges will decide together.

A different judge will have the final say each week. We’ll reveal who that first judge is at the end of next Saturday’s show.

At the end of tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing, Shirley Ballas announced a change to the judging panel. For the past seven years, she’s been the sole judge making the difficult final decisions, but now that responsibility will rotate weekly among all the judges.

Celebrities shared their reactions to the news, with Vicky Pattison saying it was a game-changer. Harry Aikines-Aryeetey joked that he’d do whatever it takes to avoid being in the bottom two.

This year’s show has already seen some changes to how people vote, as the BBC recently announced it was getting rid of expensive premium-rate lines.

The BBC stated that the current system is both outdated and costly to maintain. The Eurovision Song Contest was the final large-scale BBC program to utilize traditional televoting.

Starting now, all voting will be done online. You can find everything you need to know in this helpful voting guide.

Viewers who are excited to vote will need to hold off until next week, because no one will be eliminated during the first week of the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
