Strictly pro Carlos Gu breaks down during emotional dance with Karen Carney

Carlos Gu, a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, became emotional and started crying while performing a Waltz with Karen Carney in the semi-finals. This moved both Karen and the show’s judges to tears as well.

Performing third on Strictly, the couple danced to Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment in Time’ and their performance moved everyone to tears.

The professional dancer became emotional during the performance, and Karen comforted him. They both cried even harder after finishing their dance.

The judges were incredibly impressed with the couple’s performance, and Anton Du Beke expressed his amazement, saying he never expected such a beautiful dance from them. He praised their progress and personal journey, admitting the dance moved him deeply and that he truly enjoyed watching them.

Head judge Shirley Ballas praised the couple’s performance, highlighting their impressive opening, graceful turns, and lovely connection with each other. She especially noted their strong technique and how well they maintained their close hold throughout the dance, calling it perfect for a semi-final.

The judges’ feedback actually motivated Karen even more. She told host Claudia Winkleman that she finally felt free to truly connect with her dance partner. “For the first time, I just let go and leaned into him,” she explained. “Today, I told myself to just have fun and really connect. When we’re dancing together, it’s an amazing feeling.”

As soon as they mentioned the feedback, Karen started to cry. She shared, “I noticed he was unsteady, and in that moment, I felt really good. I’m so grateful to the costume department for making me feel so beautiful.”

Carlos, overcome with emotion, explained he wanted to share this dance as a celebration of their relationship and everything they’d been through together.

I was honestly tearing up – but they quickly turned into happy tears! The judges gave them a 39, and Carlos was right to call it unbelievable. It was a truly incredible moment.

They’re currently in first place, but that could change when they perform their Salsa later in the show.

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
