As a long-time admirer of Strictly Come Dancing, I must admit that this season has been particularly moving for me. The bond between Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell is one for the history books, a testament to resilience, camaraderie, and the transformative power of dance.
Not a single person in the audience could hold back their tears during Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s last dance on Strictly Come Dancing.
The pair performed a Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, an emotional song in and of itself. But the relationship between the duo, which has blossomed over the weeks, and the fact that Chris has thrown himself into every dance despite being blind, has made Chris and Dianne one of the show’s most cherished partnerships.
Chris, overcome with emotion, expressed that the moment felt particularly poignant as it marked their final dance together with this stunning individual, causing both him and Dianne to weep profusely.
The audience, who were on their feet, and the judges were also incredibly moved by the display.
Motsi Mabuse expressed her gratitude for their service and added, “Chris, you serve as an inspiration to everyone. You’ve demonstrated that with determination, anything is achievable.
“You didn’t only show us dancing, you gave us inspiration.”
Shirley Ballas said that Chris “will never walk alone” following his time on the show.
“I think the whole country will be following everything that you do.”
Shirley also said that Dianne had “found the way” to Chris’s heart.
“That takes a very special teacher,” she added.
Both Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood were equally as gushing.
“I didn’t want to cry, I’ve started to cry,” said the former.
He also mentioned, “I believe you’ll make a profound impact on people’s lives.” He went on to say, “You are truly remarkable, and the deed you’ve accomplished is nothing short of extraordinary.
Craig mentioned that assisting Chris and Dianne during the final had left a deep impression on him. Moreover, in an unusually heartfelt action, he composed a poem for Chris.
He remarked, ‘You’ve shown everyone that anything is possible.’ He went on to say, ‘You’re a beacon of inspiration for everyone to follow.’
In the final competition, Chris and Dianne achieved a remarkable total score of 116 across their three performances: Showdance set to “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals, Couple’s Choice performance using “Instant Karma (We All Shine On)” by John Lennon, and Waltz dance with the music “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
