As a long-time fan of JB Gill and his incredible journey from JLS to Strictly Come Dancing, I must say Saturday night’s performance was nothing short of magical! The way he seamlessly blended his past with the present, recreating his iconic “Merry Christmas” moment, was a testament to his charm and infectious spirit. It was like reliving a bit of X Factor history all over again, and I couldn’t help but feel a warm nostalgic glow.
On the electrifying evening of Saturday, 14th December, I stirred up quite a storm among Strictly Come Dancing spectators when I resurrected a popular meme from my X Factor past.
Following his debut performance of a Viennese Waltz blended with “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins, and a show-stopping Motown medley for his finale, JB selected “Mas Que Nada” by Sergio Mendes as his preferred samba dance. This captivating routine garnered him an impressive 40 points.
Not only was the audience thrilled by his final dance earning a perfect score that night, but they were equally pleased when the singer paid tribute to a surprising reference from his time on The X Factor with JLS in 2008 – a viral moment that resonated with fans.
After his performance on Strictly, Claudia Winkleman, the show’s host, enquired about the significance of winning for JB in their subsequent conversation.
He remarked, “Have you any idea how remarkable a tribute this would be?” Then he continued, “Tonight has been extraordinary, not just for me, but for everyone who’s been dancing tonight.
To win the Glitterball trophy this year would truly make for the most wonderful Christmas,” he said, looking straight into the camera and extending his holiday wishes.
His remarks allude to the widely recognized version of Last Christmas by JLS during their X Factor performance, which gained significant popularity due to a particular instant when JB gazes directly into the camera and happily exclaims: “Merry Christmas.
