Strictly Come Dancing fans were surprised this week to learn that Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who have hosted the show for many years, will be leaving after the current season ends.
I was really curious to see how those two would handle the recent news on tonight’s episode of the show – and honestly, it was touching. They addressed everything right at the beginning with a really heartfelt message.
Tess began by sharing the news that she and Claud will be leaving Strictly Come Dancing after this current series.
Claudia also expressed her gratitude for all the lovely messages they’ve received. She then shared her excitement for the next eight weeks of the show and finding out who will be crowned this year’s Strictly champion.
Tess added that they were excited to continue the series with all of the wonderful couples and judges, saying she and the team couldn’t wait to share the rest of the season with everyone.
It’s Icons Week on the show, and the couples are performing dances set to music by some of history’s greatest artists, including Dolly Parton, Beyoncé, and Johnny Cash.
The judges really got into the spirit of the theme, dressing up as iconic musicians. Craig Revel Horwood came as John Lennon, Motsi Mabuse as Grace Jones, Shirley Ballas as Elvis Presley, and Anton Du Beke as David Bowie.
Tess and Claudia announced on Thursday that they would be leaving the show. They shared a statement on Instagram explaining that they felt it was the right moment to move on.
They admitted it would be emotional to say ‘keep dancing’ for the last time, but they promised to continue encouraging each other – perhaps in comfortable clothes at home, with pizza in hand.
Both individuals then gave more detailed statements, explaining how much the show had affected their lives and careers.
Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly have co-hosted the show since 2014. Tess has been with the series since it began, while Claudia joined in 2010 after previously hosting the spin-off show, It Takes Two. She took on hosting duties for the entire weekend when Bruce Forsyth left.
