Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero coming to Switch 2 on February 17

Unknown Worlds Entertainment is releasing updated versions of their popular games, Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero, for the new Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17th. Players who already have the original Switch versions can get the upgraded versions for free with a downloadable “Upgrade Pack.”

When these games launch on the new Switch 2, they’ll look better than ever thanks to graphical upgrades. While connected to a TV, the games will run at a sharp 1440p resolution, and at 1080p when played on the go. In both modes, players can expect a smooth 60 frames per second, making the controls feel more responsive and the underwater sections more immersive. The games have also been optimized for the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, allowing for more precise movement and smoother gameplay.

According to Michael Verrette, a producer at Unknown Worlds, the strength of Subnautica has always been its players – the stories they tell, the things they find, and the shared feeling of exploring a mysterious world. Bringing Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero to the Nintendo Switch 2 is intended to expand that community with new players and give existing fans a revitalized and more engaging way to revisit these games.

You can play Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store). Subnautica is also available on iOS and Android, and Subnautica: Below Zero will be released on those platforms on March 10th.
