Brian Cox showed a little more than he bargained for at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival.
At the premiere of his first directorial project, “Glenrothan,” on September 11th, an actor from the show “Succession” experienced an inappropriate clothing incident while wearing a kilt.
For the event, Cox strutted along the red carpet wearing a black tartan Scottish pleated skirt paired with a coordinating blazer and vest. He accessorized his look with brown-tinted sunglasses and knee-high boots to complete his stylish outfit.
His stylish appearance drew admiration from everyone until, during the Q&A session at the movie premiere, Cox inadvertently revealed his valuable gems when he sat spread-legged in front of the audience.
When a spectator pointed out a seemingly inappropriate mistake, the 79-year-old humorously retorted to the audience, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “Was it that embarrassing, or was it that entertaining?
Afterward, Cox quickly secured his legs, showing no signs of being discouraged by the mishap, determined not to let it affect him negatively.
He playfully remarked that wearing the kilt correctly might leave more than intended exposed, given its nature. He further expressed that the kilt is meant for comfort and liberation. In his words, ‘It’s an incredibly liberating feeling.’
Certainly, Cox didn’t just don a kilt for comfort at the screening. It was also a tribute to his family drama “Glenrothan,” a story that revolves around two brothers estranged from each other who reconnect in their native land, the picturesque highlands of Scotland.
In the film, Cox (who both directs and acts, sharing the screen with Alan Cumming) didn’t originally come up with the concept of incorporating the story’s themes into his wardrobe, but later chose to do so.
At some moment during the show, he playfully inquired, ‘Whose bright idea was this kilt-wearing affair?’ I assure you it wasn’t mine; it was the producer who thought of it. They tend to push your boundaries, and at times can be quite vindictive.
