When Sullivan’s Crossing returns for its new season on The CW in April, one of the show’s main actors won’t be appearing.
The TV show Sullivan’s Crossing began in 2023 with Maggie Sullivan leaving her job in Boston to reconnect with her father, Sully, in Nova Scotia. However, for season 4, Maggie’s father won’t be appearing, meaning actor Scott Patterson will no longer be part of the cast.
Roma Roth, the creator and showrunner, shared with Entertainment Weekly that Sully will still be a significant presence in the show’s universe, even though he won’t be appearing right now. She also hinted that the character Patterson might return in future seasons if it fits with the show’s overall story direction.
Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, leaving ‘NCIS’ mirrors his on-screen decision to move to Ireland with his partner, Helen. The story suggests he went to support her work on adapting her book for television, and it’s implied they may have decided to remain in Ireland throughout the show’s production.
Roth explained that Sully starting his life in Ireland marks a fresh beginning for him, and the new season of Sullivan’s Crossing will begin airing immediately after he leaves.
The third season of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded with Sully departing for Ireland to start a fresh chapter. Season 4 begins the very next day, with Sully still abroad. Although he’s not physically in the current season, Sully remains a key figure, and the show’s creators haven’t ruled out his return in future installments if the story allows.
Scott Patterson is most famous for his role as Luke Danes in Gilmore Girls. He’s also appeared in several other popular shows and movies, including Saw IV, Saw V, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Justice League Unlimited, Aliens in America, 90210, and The Event.
As a big fan of heartwarming stories, I recently checked out Sullivan’s Crossing. It’s based on a series of novels by Robyn Carr – specifically, What We Find, Any Day Now, The Family Gathering, The Best of Us, and The Country Guesthouse – which she wrote between 2016 and 2020. And honestly, judging by the 67% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, a lot of other people seem to enjoy it too!
Hilary Martin, Michela DiMondo, Christopher E. Perry, Mark Gingras, Michael Volpe, Ann Bernier, Marc Tetreault, and Jason Levangie join Roth and Carr as producers on Sullivan’s Crossing. The series stars Morgan Kohan, Chad Michael Murray, Tom Jackson, and Andrea Menard.
Actor Marcus Rosner, known for his roles in shows like Arrow, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, and When Calls the Heart, as well as numerous Hallmark Channel films, will play Liam, Maggie’s ex, on the show. He was first introduced at the end of season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing in a surprising twist.
A new trailer for the next season reveals Liam questioning Maggie with, “Is that any way to greet your husband?” This unexpected line completely shocks and confuses Maggie’s current boyfriend, Cal Jones.
Now that Sully is no longer around, the show seems set to focus on the complicated romantic connection between Maggie, Cal, and Liam. And without her father, Maggie will have to handle this difficult situation on her own.
Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 premieres Monday, April 20, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
