Amanda Batula is finally in the clear (literally) after a years-long battle with adult acne.
A prominent figure from the show “Summer House” has lately shared openly about the impact of her battle with a skin condition on her mental health and overall wellness, particularly given her high-profile status in public life.
In an interview with People magazine on July 21st, Amanda shared that during her most severe acne breakouts, she chose to seclude herself from the world. She avoided attending social events and preferred to stay indoors rather than face public scrutiny. Essentially, she was concealing herself from society.
Instead, it might be more appropriate to say that the Bravolebrity found herself more self-conscious about her skin imperfections than she was willing to discuss her anxiety concerns during the reality show.
Amanda pondered, finding it surprising that she felt more at ease discussing her mental health compared to her acne, even though there’s often a social stigma surrounding mental health and it’s hard to tell what others might be experiencing. On the other hand, acne is something that can be plainly seen on a person’s face.
Amanda’s saving grace? A skincare regimen from Face Reality Skincare’s Clear Skin Method.
She shared that maintaining a consistent routine has made a significant difference for her. Specifically, she’s committed to getting monthly facials, including peels and extractions. This routine has helped her break the habit of picking at her skin, which had been an issue in the past.
After spending numerous years battling feelings of shame regarding her complexion, Amanda is now eager to assist others in overcoming this treatable issue.
She observed the response as she shared her mental health struggles, and she realized, “There’s no reason I can’t do the same.” Many people experience the same thing. Although I’m working on improving my skin, I feel empowered by being truthful about my journey.
She added, “There was indeed a great deal of unease, particularly when I was constantly visible online and on television. However, I believe that discussing these issues can help make them more commonplace. To be frank, my ultimate goal is for people to understand that having clear skin is achievable.
Additionally, Amanda offered insights to followers dealing with anxiety, regardless if it’s triggered by skin concerns like acne or not.
She suggested that everyone dealing with mental health issues should share their feelings with someone. She explained that simply verbalizing your thoughts can be incredibly helpful and relieving, like lifting a burden off your shoulders. For her personally, confessing out loud was the first step towards taking action.

She added, “I faced a great deal of anxiety, particularly due to my constant presence online and on television. However, I believe that by discussing these issues openly, we can make them more acceptable. To be frank, I simply wish others to understand that flawless complexion is attainable.
In addition, Amanda offered advice for those looking for help with their anxiety concerns, regardless if the source is related to skin problems like acne or not.
If you have mental health concerns, don’t hesitate to share your feelings with someone. Speaking up about what you’re going through can provide great relief and empowerment. For me, admitting my struggles out loud made me feel less isolated and ready to take action.

After facing scrutiny following several interviews, she humorously asked everyone to calm down. However, doctors chimed in on social media, suggesting that something might be wrong due to her unusual appearance. Confused and amused, she found herself being criticized by medical professionals.
Upon learning that the doctors believed she had Cushing syndrome, caused possibly by elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, Amy realized she had been receiving these injections for scars from a breast reduction and C-section. She suddenly felt stroke-like symptoms, including facial drooping and difficulty speaking. Hailey shared this experience on YouTube a month later, describing how she couldn’t respond when Justin asked if she was okay, and then could barely speak at all.
The medical team discovered that Hailey had a small blood clot in her brain, which they classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further examination revealed that she had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had reportedly traveled into her heart, escaped through the PFO, and reached her brain, causing the TIA.
After undergoing a successful PFO closure procedure, Hailey reported feeling well again.
That same year, Hailey underwent a health crisis, and Justin Bieber also faced a similar health issue around the same time. In June 2022, the “Baby” singer disclosed his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which affected parts of his face, causing temporary paralysis and necessitating the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4 unable to walk. He was then transferred to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“I want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I truly relied on each one of them.
Emilia Clarke, famously known for her role in Game of Thrones, had a harrowing experience when she fell ill during a workout. She wrote about this ordeal in an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” published in The New Yorker. In her own words, she described the incident as follows: “At the gym, I was struck with a severe headache that led me to the bathroom where I vomited profusely. The pain, intense and relentless, was escalating. I realized my brain was injured.”
She was rushed to the hospital for a scan which revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by bleeding in the space around the brain. Emilia had undergone immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During her recovery, she suffered from aphasia, a communication disorder where she spoke nonsensical words.
Luckily, the aphasia subsided after a week and she was discharged from the hospital a month later. However, in 2013, during a routine scan, it was discovered that the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. She recalled waking up from the procedure with intense pain and being told that her chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again. This time, the surgeons accessed her brain through her skull.
Thankfully, Emilia is now fully recovered and shares her story to raise awareness about brain aneurysms.
