Following the huge success of *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, Nintendo fans were eagerly awaiting news about a sequel. Last week, they got some exciting news with the announcement of *Super Mario Galaxy Movie*. However, that might not be all – if recent reports are accurate, a beloved Super Mario character could finally make their film debut.
A new leak from a toy related to the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie has revealed Bowser Jr., Bowser’s son. The photo surfaced online thanks to a user named @therealcineor, and it seems authentic-the image was quickly taken down at the request of NBC Universal, suggesting it was genuine. This pretty much confirms Bowser Jr.’s appearance in the film.
Bowser Jr. is confirmed to be in the upcoming *Super Mario Galaxy Movie*. This news came after a leaked photo of a toy featuring Bowser Jr. circulated online. The photo was quickly removed from both YouTube and Twitter by NBC Universal, citing its connection to the movie.

Bowser Jr’s Big Screen Debut
If you’ve played *Super Mario Galaxy*, this all fits together nicely. Bowser Jr. appears frequently as a boss throughout the game. Beating him not only progresses the story, but also rewards you with a Grand Star. Collecting enough of these stars eventually leads to a final showdown with Bowser Jr. on his airship, where he’s holding Princess Peach.
I’m really excited about the new Mario movie! Knowing it’s taking a lot of inspiration from *Super Mario Galaxy*, I was hoping Bowser Jr. would make an appearance, and the toys that leaked seem to confirm that! I’m curious to see how closely the movie will follow that game’s story, but I’m expecting they’ll pull elements from other Mario games too, which sounds awesome.
Adding Bowser Jr. would be simple since he’s appeared in many Mario games, including *New Super Mario Bros. Wii*, *Super Mario Galaxy 2*, *Super Mario Sunshine*, *New Super Mario Bros. U*, and *Super Mario Bros. Wonder*, among others.
An Expanded Cast
The first Super Mario Bros. movie successfully included many Nintendo characters, but still centered the story around Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad. The upcoming sequel will likely do the same. With Rosalina’s inclusion hinted at in the title, we can also expect to see her companions, the Lumas, appear in the film.
We might also see ideas and creatures inspired by *Super Mario Galaxy*, like Honeybees, Star Bunnies, Guppy, King Kaliente, Megaleg, Kingfin, and possibly even Mecha-Bowser, before everything is finished.
In *Super Mario Galaxy*, the game begins during a rare Star Festival, a celebration held only once every hundred years when a comet appears over the Mushroom Kingdom. However, the celebration is quickly interrupted when Bowser kidnaps the Toads, trapping them in crystals, and then steals Peach’s castle, carrying it to the center of the universe.
While chasing Bowser, Mario gets blasted into space and crash-lands on a strange planet where he meets Rosalina and her companions, the Lumas. He learns that Bowser has stolen the Power Stars from the Comet Observatory. Recovering these stars is the key to following Bowser, and that’s where your adventure begins!
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
