Okay, so Nintendo just dropped some HUGE news about the Super Mario Galaxy movie! Apparently, they’ve cast a seriously famous actor – like, a proper Hollywood star – to voice Yoshi. And it’s not just any voice actor, they’ve also got a big name from the music world involved! I’m super excited to see who it is and how they bring Yoshi to life on the big screen.
Yoshi, the green dinosaur first seen in the 1990 video game Super Mario World, is joining the cast for this new movie. He wasn’t in the first film, and he’ll be joined by new characters like Bowser Jr. (played by Benny Safdie) and Princess Rosalina (played by Brie Larson).
There’s a lot of talk that Wario might show up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but nothing’s been officially confirmed. That hasn’t stopped fans from suggesting Danny DeVito as the perfect voice for the character, though!
Donald Glover will be voicing Yoshi in the upcoming Illumination film. He’s the actor officially cast for the beloved character.

Donald Glover has built an impressive career as an actor. Many viewers know him for playing Troy Barnes on the comedy series Community, and he’s also gained recognition for his roles in blockbuster films like Solo: A Star Wars Story (as Lando Calrissian) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (as Aaron Davis).
Donald Glover is known for his work on the FX show Atlanta, which he also produced and starred in, as well as Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He’s also a musician who performs as Childish Gambino.
Adding Yoshi’s voice to his resume is a fun accomplishment, and he’s joined by a fantastic group of actors in the film.

The voice cast for the next Super Mario Bros. movie will once again feature Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Jack Black as Bowser, all returning from the 2023 film.
Matthew Fogel is writing the screenplay, and Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing. All three of them also worked on the first movie in the same roles.
The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie is based on the 2010 video game of the same name. It’s coming to UK cinemas on April 1, 2026, giving you plenty of time to play the game beforehand if you haven’t yet!
